Positive: Great tatami room with beautiful view on the mountain landscape. Breakfast and dinner served in a private room were super delicious - traditional japanese food. Staff is super kind and speaks english. They all were helping and even drove us to the shrine a few kilometers away.
Negative: A bit cold in the corridors in winter as there is only heating in the rooms where we live (bedroom, dining room...)
Summary: Great traditional experience

Positive: What a truly special place. Mr and Mrs Oshi ran this magical ryokan for many years, and now Mrs Oshi and her wonderful daughters continue the legacy with such care and grace. The surrounding landscape is magnificent, but it is the warmth and hospitality of Mrs Oshi and her family that truly shines. Every meal was an absolute feast. Thank you so much for having us, and of course, best of luck to Sakiko with her training. Paddy & Rowena xxxx
Summary: Warm hospitality in a beautiful setting from Mrs Oshi and her daughters!

Positive: I highly recommend choosing both breakfast and dinner. The food is plentiful and very very delicious and it is served with a lot of care. I could leave my luggage in the morning and was given maps and suggestions as well as directions. I was also provided with a bell to scare away bears as I was hiking alone. In the morning, The Owner's daughter drove me all the way till kagami lake, waited patiently while I took a lot of pics and then drove me all the way to Okusha. Very accommodating and very very helpful. The property is a heritage property and worth staying in. The room and futon were not too fancy but clean and comfortable.
Negative: The property is a heritage property and worth staying in. The only small drawback was lack of a common sitting area where one can sit and interact with other travelers.
Summary: Awesome food and very very accomodating owners!
