Summary: The loft apartment in Stonehouse is absolutely charming! After an action-packed bus tour of Italy, it was the perfect place to slow down and enjoy life in Tuscany for a few days. We enjoyed visiting Lucca, the medieval hill town of Volterra, and a wine tour near Montecarlo. Paola and David were friendly and gracious hosts who really helped us make the most of our time in Tuscany. If you are looking for an authentic place in a quiet country village, Stonehouse is the perfect choice! We would love to return some day.

Summary: We stayed in the top floor apartment for a week at the end of May. The accommodation was really nice and clean. The kitchenette had most of the items needed for a quick meal and the outside gardens included space to sit and enjoy the weather. We would like to stay there again so I guess that's the best thing you could say about any accommodation.

Summary: We stayed here for 4 nights. It's a very cozy space and was a great place to relax and feel at home. Paola and David were both very helpful and very responsive. We had everything we needed. And the bed was amazingly comfortable!! This location is a bit nestled away but that's what we were going for. Lucca is about a 15-20 min drive and Florence is about an hour away by car/train.

Summary: we very much enjoyed our stay - the apartment was clean and comfortable and the hosts David and Paola were friendly and helpful - its location was good, a few miles out of Lucca in a quiet hamlet - there was a restaurant nearby which served good food and was obviously popular with locals - Lucca itself is a gem - very beautiful ancient walled city with narrow streets and beautiful houses - not too full of tourists and very relaxing - we also went to Florence and Pisa and to several hill villages - all wonderful - we would recommend this area to anyone and the property made a very good base from which to explore it

Summary: We stayed at the Stonehouse for five days during an extended tour of Italy. David and Paola are wonderful hosts. Paola greeted us with a delicious fruit pie and a bottle of wine. The room was clean and functional, and the gardens and grounds were beautiful. We had a rental car so were able to take day trips to Florence, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano and, of couse, Lucca, which was our favorite. All in all, a very comfortable stay.

Summary: We flew into Rome, rented a car and drove up the A1 motor way. Unfortunately we ran into a very bad accident and we were dela.yed in arriving at stone house. Upon our arrival we were met by Paola and we felt at home right away. Very peaceful spot. The stone house is very well kept, clean, beautiful gardens. This is a very good location to use as a base with many important distinations close by and easy to reach by car. A car is absolute necessity and a GPS. Stone house is located close to a small village. We were very pleased with our ten day stay and would not hesitate to visit again. Bruce & Beverly Cape Cod

Summary: I highly recommend this experience a bit off the beaten path in Tuscany. It is close enough to a grocery store and a couple of restaurants, and a good location for exploring upper Tuscany. It is about a hour from Florence (depending on traffic) and closer to Pisa, and even closer to Lucca which was my personal favorite. Plus the area north of there, between the two mountain ranges is beautiful and filled with quaint villages and unparalleled scenery (which Rick Steeves never talks about). I would definitely recommend a vehicle, and not picking it up in Florence (the map may make it look easy to get out of town, but it is very complicated with 'round abouts' and one way streets. The apartment was good size and offered WiFi that was on the weaker end of the spectrum, compared at least to American standards. The kitchen was well enough equipped and had a full size refrigerator. The apartment and the area is peaceful, other than unexpected sounds of children wailing and dogs barking. It is very attractive or nicely done. The bathroom is through the bedroom making the arrangement uncomfortable for a extra adult or couple. The owners are meticulous about their care for the property and about their recycling. They want their garbage (unrecycled) kept to a minimum which required a lot of separating, including tissues. This is admirable or can be an annoyance, depending on how you view it. I would recommend the place and hope to go back some day. The owners were kind and engaging.
