Positive: All in all a great place. Would definitely go there again and I suspect it is the best you could do at the current price. Indeed very good value. Great host, greets you, offers advice and brings cake then leaves you to it but always ready to help. Great location. Quiet, scenic, walking distance to town but still secluded. Can hear waterfalls from the cottage. Surrounded by forest. Small cul de sac so not many going past on the road. Nice parking place. Close to train staton. Great cottage/cube. Everything you need. Good value. Good facilities, including washer/dryer. Clean, well decorated. Great view, natural light. As advertised but note the wooden slider is closed - that thing opens for sunlight in the day.

Negative: Tiny things... wouldn't prevent booking again. Exposed. Great natural light with a glass sliding door at the whole front of the building. However, this can leave you a little exposed to people walking by. Would be nice if they could add some nets so you could still get natural light and people could not see in. Also a mosquito slider so you could open the door without insects flying in. Probably the latter would do both. There were not many people walking by so not rlly an issue. Really really tiny point, but the garden at front is a little barren. Wld be nice if they could plant some basic trees.

Positive: It is definitely not a yurt and more of a cottage, but as attractive as the pictures show. When the big doors open, the picture windows look at the mountains. The construction uses natural shape of wood. All the facilities are new, modern, and quite clean. Our hostess picked us up from the train station and gave us a quick tour of town before dropping us off and making sure we knew how everything worked. She left us some gorgeous pastries. Communication prior to arrival and after was excellent. It was pouring rain on the morning of our departure and we were provided a ride to the station! Exceptional accommodations and service.

Negative: The hot plate didn’t seem to remain on (otherwise, full, impressive small kitchen). Location is about 10-15 minute walk from the station, and would be uncomfortable to do in adverse weather, laden with bags. As I said, we were provided transport, but this is probably based on time and availability.

Positive: The owner graciously picked us up in town and checked us in to the cottage. Everything was clean and comfortable. It was a long walk to town but we really enjoyed some down time with more space for our family of 3. We booked at last minute so more expensive then we had budgeted but we can’t say enough good things about the cottage and the owner. Wish we had another night but we were leaving the next day back to Tokyo and had already visited many of the tourist sites in Nikko with slushy snow and colder temperatures. It was still very beautiful and highly recommend a trip. Host picked us up and took us to train station next day so really not an issue that it was away from town for our stay.

Negative: Did walk to nearby hotel for dinner and they told us they only serve guests of the hotel so eating in town or cooking in cottage probably only options. Cottage was super comfortable however so relaxing after all day site seeing was perfect for us and highly recommended.

Summary: Great cottage and incrediblely friendly host. Would recommend if a little away from town not issue

Positive: The hosts were so kind and accommodating! They picked us up from Nikko station and it was rather late, so they brought us to a market to get food and then back to the place. Once there they helped bring in the bags, talked us through the ins and outs of the house, and even left us some cake. On departure, it was raining and they again drove us to the station and to pick up breakfast. All in all everything was great and was our favorite stay in Japan. The house is on a quiet street but is just a short walk to town. We would definitely recommend it and stay again in the future.

Positive: Beautiful little yurt and a short walk to the station. The owner was so kind to pick us up and drop us off. She even brought delicious cake on arrival. It takes some time to really heat up the yurt, so keep that in mind if you aren’t staying in summer.
