Positive: Chinese owned hotel, old building, located in the middle of downtown Berkeley walkable for tons of food - Trader Joes, Shake Shack, McD, burgers, Thai, Greek, even Burmese -- Berkeley (and SF by extension) has amazing variety of authentic international food options of very good quality. Room had refrigerator/freezer, microwave and coffee maker. Next door was the Nash Chinese restaurant, open late. Soap, shampoo and drinking water were provided free. Iron and ironing board in the room. Staff was helpful. Two beat up working pianos in lobby. Very close to Downtown Berkeley BART station.
Negative: Kinda musty overall. Many rooms have bathroom down the hall (a cheaper option). No A/C. Drink machine had warm sodas. A couple homeless folks on the sidewalk outside (non aggressive). King mattress I had seemed a bit worn out.
Summary: It's not for everyone, but if you can vibe with a funky old Asian style 2-star hotel, it's great

Positive: Perfect for 1 or 2 night stays. Central area close to Bart, Telegraph, and other things.
Negative: While the room had a small area with a sink and mirror each floor has a shared bathroom and shower. This doesn't bother me especially in these older buildings in the bay area but I don't remember it stating that on the web site.
