Positive: Firstly let me say just how nice, welcoming, and super helpful the hosts Brenda and James were. Nothing was too much trouble for them - they were full of knowledge and always keen to make sure we had a great time. James is super willing to drive you to and from the park entrance and is happy to pick up at the drop of a WhatsApp message. The accommodation IS basic but the price reflects that so there’s no sense that this isn’t value. Don’t expect fancy aircon or much in the way of posh rooms - but for sure what you have is cleanliness, warmth and friendliness. Brenda’s great tour into the Park was a nice addition to all we experienced here. The Marriott Hotel over the river is a stark reminder of how expensive Mulu can be….

Negative: We were well aware of the limited facilities so were happy to accept a little bit of “roughing it” in order to save a few ringgit for the real reason we were here - namely seeing all that Mulu had to offer.

Positive: James and Brenda are great hosts and very knowledgable. Brenda is a certified guide so can lead you on tours of all of the sights of Mulu NP in what are usually much smaller groups than you would be with if you went with the official park tours, which is great. Quiet location, with three restaurants close by.

Negative: Keep in mind that this is fairly basic accommodation. Cold shower only, no air con, very basic breakfast if needed. Will suit some but not others.

Positive: James was so friendly! he picked us up to mulu airport and then he explained everything that we needed to know in Mulu village and in the National park ! rooms are simple but comfortable! great for staying a day before and after your expeditions around gunung mulu national park ! as well breakfast well prepared and in case that we needed he drove us around! i will sure be back at homestay ! thanks heaps !!!

Positive: Quite basic accommodation close to Marriott hotel. Room was large (4 beds, we were only 2) and clean a well as the bathroom. There is no AC but a fan on the wall and it can get very hot during the day. The host was helpful and explained us everything. The accommodation is NOT within a walking distance to the park - unless you like to walk a lot. There is an option to get dropped whenever you need for 5 MYR per person per way, so it can make the stay more expensive. Overall we enjoyed our time.

Negative: See above, that is not really like or unlike, just the way it is. The rooms are missing some hangers or hooks because then you have no room to unpack.

Positive: The place is unpretentious and simple but the host's Brenda and James go to great lengths to help you plan your stay in Mulu and are full of interesting information. Brenda is a guide and trips can be organised with her. There is a self catering kitchen but nearby are a cafe and the Marriot Hotel where you can choose to eat. I did!
