Negative: The necessity of the deposit even though there is no mini bar in the room. Didn’t get that. Also, the room was quite cold in the winter, the heating system didn’t help much.

Positive: Staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Rooms were perfect and breakfast was very good value. Public car parking only a 2 minute walk away.

Negative: There is no specific eating area for meals so it is just to eat in the bar area.

Positive: The Moxy is situated by old ship docs with an industrial feel, and that has obviously inspired the internal decor of the lobby but in a modern way. We arrived around lunchtime after a visit to the nearby “Bassins des Lumières” which I highly recommend. The helpful staff let us check in early and asked if we would be interested in breakfast but we turned down the offer, so I can’t say anything about it. Breakfast must be a hard sell for them with “Les Halles de Bacalan” literally around the corner with everything you could wish for. We visited the “Cité du Vin” in its architecturally interesting building but the exhibition and wine tasting left us rather unimpressed. The Moxy doesn’t offer parking but there is a nearby parking structure “Interparking Cité du Vin” that was modern, clean and safe so I left the car there over night. The Moxy seems to be geared at the mobile professional more than tourists but we really enjoyed our stay there just the same. Everything about the hotel had a clean polished feel to it. AC worked fine and we had a great view over the docks and city. After a few hours at “Atelier la Patine” where we learned how to make leather handbags, it was on to the next destination.

Negative: The beds are too hard, but it’s the same all over France more or less.

Summary: Expect a nice stay at this modern hotel with its great staff.

Positive: The bed was nice but the pillows weren’t. The size of the room was nice and the shower water pressure. Their staff is hit and miss. One lady was very nice as she helped me fill my cup noodles with hot water (Sundays all good food places are closed like the bacalan market) but the check in staff wasn’t and another girl was clearly very sick (couldn’t stop coughing and was wearing a mask that didn’t cover her mouth well) but was still allowed to work and speak to guests.

Negative: The check in process. The weather was so hot when I arrived I noticed the check in for all other guests included a glass of water/drink however I wasn’t offered a drink despite being hoarse and the check in girl even asked me to speak up. Didn’t feel good about being singled out. Furthermore the 80 Euro deposit that they hold is really difficult for international debit/ credit cards because it was the last stop of my trip and the amount would be returned in euro and would stay in my wallet until I travel to Europe again which wouldn’t be anytime soon which is frustrating especially when I assured them I won’t use anything or buy breakfast. The room I got was on the first floor and they are definitely not sound proof so it is very difficult to get a decent nights sleep since the road and the people are talking loudly outside so I had to sleep in the day.

Summary: Worst 2 nights of sleep and check in process I’ve experienced.
