Positive: The kitchen is lovely and we liked sitting watching the birds and trains in the garden

Negative: The bathroom is very old and in need of modernisation. Our 10 year old got stuck in the shower as the door is so hard to use. Also the towels and tiny and the only bin is in the kitchen. There should be one in the bathroom. The garden is pretty but needs work, the step from the conservatory to the garden is dangerous with the broken tiles. The toilet in a wardrobe was a surprise !

Positive: The location is excellent for access to other areas such as Fort William. The house is nice and comfortable.

Negative: I tried contacting Sykes cottages on the day of arrival as I was struggling to find the property and how to access the keys, but they were impossible to get hold of. After nearly an hour of attempting to speak to someone we gave up and rang the emergency number, there was an automated message that told us the line was for emergencies only but then also went on to give information on how to find key collection and directions if booked via booking.com. Given they have added these instructions to their prerecorded emergency line, I can only assume they have had regular issues. There is a strange, sickly smell in the bedrooms that was quite overpowering and affected our sleep on the first night. Roybridge itself doesn’t have anything to offer. There are two pubs. The first, Roybridge hotel appears to be in the brink of closure, it needs some serious updating and after one drink we didn’t have enough confidence in the place to order food. The second, The Stronlossit Inn, is an improvement and we ate here once. Unfortunately the food is very overpriced and not a great standard. So, if you plan to cook for yourself and just use this as a base, then no problem.

Summary: Did the job but unlikely to return.

Positive: Clean, spacious and felt very at home. Beautiful garden and so much wildlife activity in the garden and beautiful views. The cottage had its own personality and history. It’s child and pet friendly, the staff who maintain the Cottage take pride in Mo Dhachaidh and this adds to the experience of staying here. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything you need to cook a homely meal or local hotel/pub and cafe within walking distance of you just wanted a bite to eat elsewhere. Perfect home base for all routes and it’s so central to multiple locations, being able to get in the car and drive to multiple locations and beauty spots to expand the experience of the Highlands and all of hat it has to offer.

Summary: Perfect place to relax and recharge, and spend quality time with family.

Positive: The location was ideal for exploring the beautiful Highlands, making it a convenient base for our trip. The house, though older, was tastefully decorated and thoughtfully arranged with the needs of travelers in mind. We especially appreciated the welcome box of treats — a lovely gesture. The home was well equipped, with everything we needed to warm up meals and prepare light breakfasts. The beds were very comfortable, and we all slept well, feeling refreshed and ready for the next day’s adventures.

Negative: The bathroom was quite dated and compact, with limited space for toiletries and no convenient place to hang damp towels. The toilet also didn’t flush very efficiently. It would have been helpful to have some paper towels available, as there was only a single kitchen towel provided for both hand drying and dishes.
