Positive: The staff were fantastic and did everything they could to help us with any issues we had, Elise especially. The hotel reception, bar & restaurant were spot on with their service, and the spa was lovely.

Negative: When we checked in, we found that our bathroom was covered in dark hair (we're blonde & ginger, so definitely not ours) and obviously hadn't been cleaned properly, then when I opened the shower door the seal fell off, along with a lot of water and was covered in black mold. The next day HK came and cleaned the bathroom, and we used it for the first time, but we found that the door was too big for the frame and therefore did not shut at all. We reported this and it was fixed relatively quickly, however none of the above should have happened, and it was not expected from a hotel like Mercure, we received a free drink each but the negatives outweighed that unfortunately. The dark hair was quite hard to capture on camera, but it was all over the bathroom, and the seal is quite clearly moldy. Elise was instrumental in improving our stay, and helped us with all of our issues.

Summary: Cleanliness needs improvement, but the Reception staff were great.

Positive: Comfortable bed and lovely breakfast. Public areas, reception, and dining room were opulent and beautiful.

Negative: The bathroom is in need of an update. Masses of rust around the bath taps, chipped paint on the bath, odd sink taps. Pretty grotty grout, floor and wall. It's just not acceptable for a room costing £174. We were upgraded to a superior family room (two of us...) with a lake view. This was half a mile away from reception, on the ground floor, and with a public footpath 20 feet away. There were no separate blinds/voile, which meant for any privacy from dog walkers and anglers we had to have the curtains drawn permanently. Not value for money.

Negative: Room 131 no as they say big light in room and no plugs at side of the bed or USB ports the hallway out side coming down had a really bad smell in it was like sewerage the bar upstairs in room for wedding reception was poor no cask ales not enough bottles in bar and bad lighting were buffet was and in morning breakfast was a bit poor not enough fresh cooked eggs the scrambled egg was poor sloppy looking the coffee was a bit poor

Positive: The staff are very friendly and the rooms are clean. The bed is large and very comfortable

Negative: The walls are very very thin and you can hear everything from your neighbours, them walking, them talking and screaming children. Rooms with balconies or outdoor areas invite people to smoke there and there were times when we had to close our door/window to get away from the smoke. Some of the facilities are quite outdated and are in need of replacing not just repainting.
