Summary: We have stayed in the Melia Benidorm many times over the past 20 years, we have enjoyed it very much and why we continued to return. The pool area is excellent with no problems. We feel now though the Hotel is getting a bit old and behind the times. Nothing has changed for years, it's no longer up to date and requires modernization. Things like no USB plugs in the rooms or public spaces, the bedroom had satellite TV, but the UK channels not working. The wooden panelling is old and water stained, bit of a 1990's throwback. The bar is boring and very old fashioned. The decor is the same this past 25 years and really beginning to show. We also found the standard if food to be not as good. Plenty of choice but just seems to be using cheap products and poor quality food. Whilst we have enjoyed our time at the Melia it's now time to move on and find a more up to date Hotel with better facilities and standards.

Summary: The stay at this hotel started with 30 minutes in the reception. We got a “Trainee” that was checking us in. But his rudeness got us the impression that he had worked there too many years and was sick of he’s job. He also had coworkers around him that could helped him when they saw that he took too long checking us in. They saw that we had a baby under 1 year with us. Still, no assistance. A big issue at the check in was also that we booked a family room and paid extra for that. But on their system it was a normal room. So he said that this is something we should talk to hotels.com about. They don’t take responsibility for that. When we finally got the keys, he didn’t had the courtesy to tell us where we should go for our room. Still with the baby on our arms we had to go wrong before we figure out that our room was on the other side. This hotel is big. And after 30 minutes in the check in, it was not a nice experience to also look for our hotel room. We didn’t want that challenge. Other things to mention: the room was ok! Not the room we paid for, but nice bed and ok bathroom. The people working at the cafeteria was so nice! Also at the breakfast! But the food was not 4 stars. We came late, one hour before breakfast closed, so maybe that’s why the food tasted like it was from yesterday. Overall the hotel is big and has a nice pool area but everything screams that it needs a renovation. Old hotel but it has his charm. Except from the front desk.
