Positive: Breakfast buffet was excellent. Tulle, the closest city. seemed to be half-under construction. The other half is vacant with for rent signs everywhere. The manor house has an identity crisis. Is it a boutique hotel, an airbnb, or a rural retreat? Parking was superb. Rules and entry details were a bit tedious.

Negative: The showers are in the bathtub. We were told to only use the showers, The v=bathtubs are huge and for the elderly very challenging to get in and out of. There are no security handles on the walls to help guests get in or out of the tub. The owners need to be made aware that showers in slippery bathtubs are dangerous especially when there are no handrails around the bathtub.

Summary: Excellent breakfast; an old mansion set in a park; dangerous showers.

Positive: Wonderful historic building, beautifully furnished with antiques but offering a high level of comfort. Our room was spotless and really beautiful, and the owners were very helpful, for example in pointing out places for dinner. Breakfast was copious and very good, with yoghurt, fresh fruit, croissants, cheese, ham an home made jams. Set high above the town, in extensive grounds with plenty of parking space.

Negative: The town of Tulle is very historic - famous among other things for accordion making and the light fluffy textiles to which it gives its name. But it is quite run down and could do with some tender loving care. The river front has real potential and could be a great attraction. In the house, some larger towels would be nice! But it's only a very small criticism.

Summary: Lovely historic oasis on the edge of a fascinating old industrial town
