Positive: The Villa at Mairenui Rural Retreat offered peaceful, warm and authentic Kiwi hospitality in a comfortable, characterful house that's been part of the same family farm for generations. On a cold, windy and wet day, the wood burner turned the kitchen/dining area into a cosy space, while the bedroom had electric blankets and an oil heater. The Villa is well equipped with everything one may need, including excellent WiFi, a full kitchen, coffee/tea-making facilities, a beautiful dining-room table, warm robes in the bedroom, and a charming piano in the lounge. The next morning, the sun came out and it was lovely to hear the magpies, and see green rolling hills, spring flowers, and grazing horses outside. The yummy breakfast of homemade muesli, croissants and good coffee (flat white) was enhanced by a great conversation with the well-travelled and friendly hosts.

Negative: The shower was a bit temperamental.

Positive: Sue and David are lovely people who were very kind and considerate. We felt very welcome and looked after. The breakfast was fantastic (I'm Coeliac and was very well catered for), and the setting was so beautiful and peaceful. The little house we stayed in was rustic and charming, and in the most beautiful aurroundings. It was by far the loveliest place we've stayed while in New Zealand.
