There is lots of sunshine and the ocean is invitingly warm. Long Island is awaiting YOU!
Whether you are a couple, or a group of seven, this house has an intimate feeling of warmth and comfort. The upstairs living space is just as nice for two as it is for more people.
From the huge deck, one has the views and soothing sounds of the ocean on both sides of our island. It's a special place to star gaze at night.
This unique home has four bedrooms and two baths on the ground floor and a beautiful upstairs with a large 'Sunset Deck', great room with a nice kitchen and a spacious lounging area. The bedrooms are in groups of two, each set with a shared bathroom. Each bedroom is air conditioned: a reasonable amount of electrical charge is included in the rental. Our water is all rain water...best showers ever!
This beautiful home is in within walking distance to The Stella Maris Resort and to The Moonshine Bar, Erma's Nature Pool, the beautiful rock pools and Love Beaches. It's minutes from the Stella Maris Airport and to some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches in the world.
It's also just minutes from the "Main Road", bringing you North or South to all the other wonders of Long Island. To the North are the famous Cape Santa Maria Beach, Columbus Bay and Monument, and the Adderley Historical Ruins. To the South are the famous Deans Blue Hole, Clarencetown and the Flying Fish Marina, wooden smack sloop building...and more.
Long Island is just remote enough to be away from the "tourist kitsch" but not remote as not to have a great availability of good food, drink, high speed internet, etc. One can mingle outside with others for a "sundowner" or be the only person on a beach. The weather is wonderful: not too hot, breezy, and generally sunny.

We need to add that it is not easy to get on or off Long Island, one of the reasons we ask for a seven day minimum stay. Be sure you book your inter island flights prior to making any other reservations. Please see our last photograph for suggestions as to how to get to Stella Maris. As of October 20, Stella Maris Resort Air Service is $506 round trip plus $1.00 per passenger levy, Bahamsair to Deadmans Cay is $506 Round Trip: taxis to Stella Maris are about $90 each way. Makersair from FortLauderdale to Stella Maris is $1012 round trip. In spite of the cost, and seemingly complicated booking, it is all worth the trouble and expense! These fares are all subject to change.

Summary: We stayed for one week and enjoyed the house! It is spacious, with four large bedrooms and two bathrooms downstairs. Washer and dryer worked great, as did everything in the house with the exception of the stereo. The upstairs area is an open concept living room, dining area and kitchen, with windows all around, a deck, and views of the Sound and the Atlantic. The bed was comfortable, plenty of towels, and everything was very clean. The spiral staircase did take some work getting up and down, and would not be ideal for anyone with mobility or balance issues. We missed having a bathroom upstairs, as both bathrooms are on the lower level. I felt the house was reasonably priced and large enough for two couples, a large family or two small families. It was more than enough space for the two of us! We did miss not being close enough to a beach to walk out the door and be at the water. It's a short drive to the Stella Maris Love Beaches and 15 minutes to the Cape Santa Maria beach, which is lovely. A good home base to explore the North part of Long Island, not far from grocery stores and great restaurants, especially Lenox and Aggie's in Burnt Ground. Susan is a wonderful host and provided excellent resources about the island and a USB speaker. Wifi worked great! The house is private - you cannot see or hear neighbors (a few houses distant), and you can hear the waves at night. The Stella Maris area is aging, and was very quiet when we were there.

Summary: To start, the host Susan was fantastic to work with and meet. She made our trip as effortless as possible, provided great advise on shopping and beach locations. Susan and Rolf met us at the airport and brought us to the home. She pre-purchased some food items for us so when we arrived so we did not have to rush out shopping. I highly recommend this location if your prepared to get away from the busy live. I do recommend bringing your blue-tooth speaker so you can enjoy your favorites.

Summary: Roomy home with great views, perfect location for exploring the north of the island. Walking distance to Stella Maris resort and Atlantic beaches, 5 min to Adderleys for great fishing, 15 min to Cape Santa Maria and Columbus Monument. Susan was great to communicate with for anything we needed. Roads at Stella Maris are rough, so recommend renting an SUV. Bring bug spray, if there is no wind the no see ums are fierce!

Summary: Mostly importantly, be aware there is no AC upstairs, only in the bedrooms. We were aware and prepared, so not an issue for us. We closed the doors and shades while out exploring during the day, and within a few minutes of opening everything up when we returned in the evening, the breeze aired it out quite comfortably. We turned on the bedroom AC an hour before we went to bed, which worked perfectly. For a visit outside the summer months, none of this would even be a factor. There is almost always a nice breeze upstairs. We got by just fine with the kitchen supplies, but be advised, they are fairly basic. The water and laundry appliances worked fine. No issues with anything in the house. The view of both coasts from the upstairs deck is gorgeous. One of our favorite things about the out-islands is the view of the stars in the night sky. You just cannot get that except for the most rural portions of the US mainland. The resort is a 10-minute walk away. Most everything else will require a vehicle. Rent one with good ground clearance (SUV) if you are adventurous. The roads around Stella Maris were pretty bad when I first visited in 2015, and it doesn't seem anything has been done to them since. Even Queens Hwy has plenty of potholes to dodge. Max Conch Bar & Grill is an absolute must. Lots of fantastic snorkeling spots to be found. Susan's binder in the house has plenty of recommendations. Thank you Susan- we look forward to staying here again on a future visit!

Summary: Sunset Residence is a larger home with a great deck with views of the Caribbean and Atlantic. You can fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. Breezes are constant and helpful for this city-dweller as we tried to go easy on the AC. Susan is SUPER responsive and accommodating. I highly recommend you read her guest packet as soon as you arrive because it really helped us plan trips to beaches, markets, the bank, etc. The house is less than 10 minutes from the airport and walking distance to the local resort and closest restaurant that takes credit cards. The resort is on the Atlantic side so surf is stronger at their beach but the Caribbean side resort is about a 15-20 minute drive north. House has Wi-Fi, slightly older but fully functional appliances, a stereo (that we never used) and board games. There is no TV, which really helps you disconnect and appreciate the views. If you want a house with lots of bedrooms, great views and privacy, this is the house for you.

Summary: Lovely property that my whole family enjoyed! Susan was super friendly and responsive to all of our questions and needs. Beautiful views from the house, and the house is nice and breezy. Walking distance to the Stella Maris resort so we also enjoyed the restaurant and pool there. Susan has lots of excellent resources for local food shopping, restaurants, etc. The house is also super close to the airport. Highly recommend!

Summary: The location of this property is tremendous with views of both the Atlantic and Caribbean. Access is a very easy drive off the Queens Highway into Stella Maris and to the Sunset residence. If you fly into Stella Maris airport you're no more than 5 minutes away. The owners, Susan and Rolf, live nearby if there is anything you need or for any questions you may have but they are not intrusive in any way and are two of the nicest, friendly and helpful people on Long Island and enjoyed talking with them. The house is well maintained, has great internet available and has a deck for spending time outside and viewing sunrises and sunsets. The cost is exceptionally reasonable compared to everything else on the island. You also have the option of using Stella Maris resort facilities such as beaches, restaurant and beach bar, all within waking distance. There are more than several beaches on both side of the island close enough for you to visit on the North End. More should you wish to explore. Groceries and supplies are also less the 15 minutes away. We would definitely recommend staying here to anyone. Thank you Susan and Rolf...

Summary: When we landed at the Stella Maris, Long Island airport, Ralph (hosts husband) was waiting there for us with his vehicle and was most kind in offering to take us to the house and carry our luggage, the house was clean and ready for us when arriving and the host was very helpful in describing the property to us and how all light switches and water systems operated. The view from the second floor on the property was incredible! having been coming to Stella Maris for the last decade, I have lodged at several houses and the two resorts on the island, but this had the best view for both, the Atlantic, and Caribbean oceans I have had yet!!! Any time we had a question about something on the island, both Susan and Ralph was kind in helping us with information or the ability to squire a item. We did have a small issue with the water system for a afternoon, but as soon as we alerted the hosts of our situation, they arrived in ten minutes and resolved it and made us all very comfortable and assured us they would be available at any time needed. Overall I was very happy with the property and the hosts. We will be staying at this property again and are so thrilled to have new friends! I can say this was one of the better experiences I have had with HomeAway and will recommend to anyone who wants to get away from the tourist traps and hustle of crowds! Thanks again to our hosts!
