Alonissos House | Little Yellow House With Beautiful Sea View

1 Bedroom House in Alonissos, Alonnisos

This is an old shepherd's house, so overall it's fairly basic, although it does benefit from a recently refurbished bathroom and hot water system as well as a massive queen size bed with luxury Cocomat mattress.
It has a beautiful balcony with sweeping sea views which benefits from a breeze. Below is a side-of-the-street, chill-out porch where you can watch life passing by in the shade.
This is really somewhere to get away and forget the world on a Greek island with the sunshine, the flowers, the clear waters and the utterly unrushed village around you. You have a 15 min or so walk down the mule path to the secluded beach, you're up on a big hill so this is a lovely walk if you're fit, curving round a gorgeous valley with pine and olive trees, lizards dart over the stones. It's also just a couple of minutes walk to the central village square with its abundance of bars and restaurants, and from where you can pick up a bus or taxi to connect to the rest of the island.

Summary: We spent over two weeks in this lovely property with fantastic views of the coast of Alonissos, either from the balcony or the verandah, which gets the sun in the morning and the shade in the afternoon (we arrived later in the year - September). The property was very well located (as long you like steps and hills - we did) for a number of beaches, the old town (with its quaint shops and very nice restaurants) and Patitiri (there is a regular bus service in the mornings and evenings). The house itself was great, it had everything we needed and expected, with enough crockery / facilities to cook basic meals. The bed was most comfortable, which meant we had no problem getting to sleep. A wonderful stay and in a wonderful location. We love to stay again. Thank you.

Summary: The location of the house is the very best, tranquil, as it is equally removed from the sometimes boisterous square with many nice cafés (which we enjoyed visiting at other times) and the other end of the small village, where restaurants and cafés (besides meals, drinks etc.) also offer various kinds of music and entertainment. Sitting in the evening and at night on the very nice balcony of the house, overlooking the sea and some islands, watching the stars come out and the moon rising, sipping the wine you have chosen from the local supermarket, well, you can hardly ask for more. You can easily prepare a nice uncomplicated meal in the small kitchen and enjoy the evening at home, if you do not want to go out every night. There are many restaurants and also a good number that will provide you with a remarkably nice dinner (and very nice wines to choose from). The kitchen offers what is neccesary for cooking a meal; a few more smaller coffee cups would be nice, as well as glasses, but you can also do what we did, buy yourself some very nice stoneware cups in one of the shops in town and enjoy supporting the local trade and Cretan handcraft. A lovely souvenir to take home. (The same goes for a chopping board, actually; but then again, you can have a very nice board of olive wood in one of the shops). On the groung floor of the house you can enjoy the semi-shade in the patio (below the balcony) in the morning. The sun is filtered through leaves of fig and almond trees and you can still enjoy the great views of the sea and the islands to the east. From about one pm there will be a comfortable shade on the balcony. You enter the balcony, which offers even nicer views, from the bedroom on the first floor and at night you have a look of the stars and the moon through the door and in the morning the sun will wake you up, when it rises above the higher islands to the northeast. Furthermore, you must go to one of the beaches; we chose Micros Mourtias, a small beach in an cove with a lovely sandy seabed. The old mule track leading down there from the town is a wonderful experience in itself. Alltogether, we had a lovely sixteen days vacation in this little yellow house, perfectly suited for two people wanting to go to a most beautiful island in the Aegean Sea.

Summary: The Little Yellow House on Alonissos was a lovely place to stay. it was simple, but very comfortable, with everything I needed. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants an authentic experience on the beautiful island of Alonissos.

Summary: We spent three weeks in the little yellow house for the second time (see my advice in french for last year) and we again appreciate it a lot ! The house has very simple comfort but all the necessery is there to wash, sleep and eat and is very well situated in the old village : not too far from the animated center but in a quiet street. The island is beautiful with paths for those who like walking, splendid beaches whith water at 25 or 26 °C in summer and the lovely old village with taverns and chilling bars... Great holidays !!!

Summary: I stayed in this charming tiny old house for 3 weeks from late June to mid July. As was stated to me in the particulars it is an old shepherd's house with all the quirks one would expect in an old property which is part of its charm. The house is chock full of character and very welcoming with fascinating artefacts decorating the upstairs traditional fireplace. This room has an open beamed ceiling and wood floors. The equipment in the cool downstairs kitchen is basic with just a 2 ring gas hob to cook on as in many old houses in Alonnisos but there is a fridge (stocked thoughtfully with juice, milk and fruit for my arrival), a new sink and new pans. Upstairs the huge bed with top of the range new mattress is super comfy. The new shower room downstairs is a cut above the norm for Greece and is up to modern bistro standards. The advice to turn off the water heater before showering is standard in properties in the old town, I have come across this before in new build apartments. The views from the upper terrace outside the bedroom are stunning and the downstairs patio is great for a shady lunch in the heat of the day. When I arrived there was rain and wind so the fan heater provided was very welcome. By the time I left it was too hot to sit out until 5pm when the terrace was in shade so the shady patio downstairs was even more welcome. I needed to use the fan provided to cool the bedroom ready for sleep. There was an abundance of clean linen and towels and bedding was changed as often as requested. There was a selection of very interesting books. Neighbours are very friendly. I absolutely loved staying here. I only have one suggestion for improvement. Some of the old electric sockets do need replacing hence four rather than five stars.
