Positive: Fairly quiet, except for the frogs. Comfortable. Relatively close to Volcano's National park.

Negative: Very far away from everything, and two gates to get through every time you went out. The last section beforethe Inn is a very rough road.

Positive: We really appreciated the estate style, including all of the native trees and fruits that are available on the property. The direct proximity to lava tree State Park was fun, and the drive towards the coast, which showed us the lava flow from 2018 was astounding. The highlight of our day was definitely sharing time with Irene, who is an exceptional person and made our stay really special! If you have a chance to stay at this location, you will enjoy meeting her and sharing in her stories and experiences. We would return just to continue the exchange with her, as it was very personable and meaningful. The breakfasts in the morning were really nice, and we appreciated all of the fresh fruit, the fresh yogurt, and the addition of fresh scrambled eggs from her adorable hens. Irene is extremely knowledgeable about the area and has a fantastic network of friends. We were actually pleasantly surprised by a number of individuals who joined Irene at the property and had a 2 to 3 hour jam session covering songs that made our day really special. If you have a chance to go there, you will undoubtedly like it and appreciate the relaxed feeling from being in the area.

Negative: We did a lot of driving in the area, and the private road leading from the volcano tree State Park to the property is a little bumpy. Over the three days that we stayed there, we probably went back-and-forth over the private road 10 times, which was enough for us in our low rental car :-).

Summary: The property is relaxed, well located in the Pahoa area, and Irene is a fantastic individual to meet well worth the stay

Positive: The grounds are beautiful, wish we had more time to wander around. There are lots of space to relax and enjoy the flowers that surround the Inn. The rooms were very comfortable with private baths. Irene, the Inn Keeper was extremely accommodating. She worked hard to make our stay memorable. If we needed something, she’d quickly get it. The breakfast was always delicious with local fruits.

Negative: With the heavy rains, the pleasant drive on to the property got bumpy. No fault of the Inn Keeper.

Summary: We wanted a quiet place surrounded by a park off the beaten path, Lava Tree Tropic delivers it all.

Positive: We love the Lava Tree inn and we love the hostess, Irene! our room was lovely, as well as the property with its lush plantings, macadamia trees, orchids and flowering trees. It's right next to Lava Tree state park, and close to black sand beaches and mineral springs. Irene is a character, born in Hungary, widely travelled and happily settled in Puna after years in LA; the tropical fruit breakfasts with homemade breads were great, as was Irene's company. We were treated to guinea fowl, chickens and Irene's 21 year old cat Boomerang. I can't say enough and recommend the Inn highly!

Positive: We had a wonderful stay with Irene at the Lava Tree Inn and would highly recommend it to anyone. The property is beautiful and privately secluded in the forest. Additionally, Irene is a wonderful host. She is warm, friendly, and tells captivating stories. She even provides breakfast using fruits she grows in her own yard! Again, we truly enjoyed our stay with Irene and would recommend it to everyone

Positive: Very peaceful acerage with all kinds of tropical plants and trees, birds. Free range chickens. Frogs. You are away from city life. Irene is an interesting host to visit with.

Negative: Our GPS had trouble locating the address. best thing is to look for Lava Tree State Park. Takes you right to her gates.

Positive: Lovely secluded tropical oasis on the slopes of Kilauea. Great location for exploring the island. I downloaded Google Maps of Hawaii so managed without phone or data when driving. Irene is a friendly, helpful host. I really enjoyed her eggs for breakfast!
