Positive: The location was central and there was parking included about 2 blocks away. The room was ready early for us, and check-in was easy. Nebaj is a fantastic place to explore! Bring a 4x4 car!! The roads are an adventure.

Negative: There were some problems with the water and the electricity. The staff was responsive and opened the cistern valve to supply water when we needed it. The power outages were city-wide, and occur often, according to the locals.

Summary: I would go back. They are basic but adequate accommodations.

Positive: We needed a place to stay before leaving for a trek and found Las Clavellinas. The room was clean and we appreciated the attached restaurant where we ate 2 meals. There were also a few restaurants nearby. The staff were very helpful and attentive through your stay.

Negative: The room felt a little dark, but it was a rainy day.

Positive: Estuardo is who will keep transforming this hotel into a little gem - and it is well on its way. As a Canadian who lives in Mexico, I know when arriving in small towns that are out of the way, that I cannot expect the bells and whistles of a tourist destination. We did not have hot water, though I’m not sure if that is a constant here - and I am hopeful that will get fixed in time. Our internet was out in the AM for a couple of hours, but when it worked, it was high speed and actually the best internet we had during our time in Guatemala. I gave this hotel a 10 because of Estuardo and the efforts that are being made to make this a comfortable experience. I loved the red bedspread on my bed - made on a pedal loom - an homage to the local textile artists. The room was very clean, beds were fairly new and comfortable. Pillows could use replacing, but again, this isn’t a tourist area that caters to foreigners often. I always travel with an extension cord, and needed it here because the plug was far from the bed. But if you come prepared, this won’t matter. The room had a desk, but was quite primitive with regards to no bedside lamps or decor. Clean is what matters most to me, and that it was. The women here work very hard all day, this is a hard working team. Estuardo offers tours to stunning areas around Nebaj, and also takes guests to meet backstrap loom weavers who are famous among textile lovers like me. I was having major problems accessing cash, as the bank machine couldn’t read my card. But it worked with the remote terminal here and I am indebted to Eduardo for letting me pay him through the terminal for cash, so I could purchase huipiles. Then he wanted a photo of me with one of them, and his face lit-up. He showed me a photo of a weaver he had taken another guest to meet - and though his own family doesn’t weave, it’s evident that he feels proud of his community.
