You have the option of driving your own car right down to the water's edge. The beaches are an eldorado for windsurfers and kite enthusiasts, and the first weekend in September every year the Rømø Kite Festival is held with participants from all over the world. The island is just a short pleasant boat trip from the German island of Sild (German: Sylt), where Europe's largest walking sand dune is found. But also close to exciting Danish market towns such as Tønder and Ribe.
