Positive: The room was amazing. Large and comfortable with everything we needed. The outdoor onsen with spectacular views over the bay was a massive highlight. The staff were friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed our stay. The fish foot spa is a fun addition as is the gift shop and kids activity area.

Negative: The reception area and some of the general facilities are a bit dated and you can see the place used to be very grand. It is also a bit of a hike from the main Shimoda streets - especially on hot days, so taxi is almost a must-have

Positive: This was the most relaxing part of you Japan holiday

Negative: Was slightly to far out of town for walking to Perry Street, but we had a car so was not an issue. The location was definitely the best for views

Positive: Japanese style room with private onsen on terrace was absolutely worth it. The hotel has is very old charm. Breakfast was excellent.

Positive: This place is like a window into the past. If you're looking for 5 star accomodation with the latest in furnishings and technology, this isn't for you. If you want to experience Fear & Loathing in Shimoda then definitely stay here.

Negative: The rental price for bicycles was way too high. We considered it as parking by the beaches is ¥2000, but renting 2 bikes for the day was going to be over ¥6000 which is ridiculous.
