Positive: I usually don’t write reviews but i will make an exception. I stayed at the place as a passing station to Takachiho gorge ( one hour driving) . I arrive quite late after a long day of hiking and driving .The lady who runs the place was very nice , we communicated using google translate , she cooked me dinner ( actually it was the only time that i ate homemade meal in Japan ) And she didn’t charge me. This is rural japan but the house was equipped with all the regular amenities , japanese toilet, light sensors and so forth. Anyways , i am glad i stayed there and not in Kumamoto.

Positive: We can highly recommend a stay at Kitsonenotebukuru. We felt warmly welcomed and enjoyed the hospitality of our host and the beautiful surroundings. We got a lift to a pleasant onsen near by aswell. Thank you very much!

Positive: The location is absolutely beautiful - up in the hills surrounded by small rice fields, trees, Japanese style houses and greenhouses processesing crops. The hosts are very kind and attentive, and are used to using smartphone translators to communicate with foreign guests. They serve a very big breakfast and elaborate Japanese style dinners.

Negative: It's best to have a rental car to get between your stay and the surrounding sights. I recommend a narrow one with a hybrid motor, since the mountain roads are narrow and steep.

Summary: A wonderful escape and taste of rural Japan
