Summary: If you want to live an authentic Japanese experience, this is the best place for it. It is well located and comfortable with two floors. It is the house of a samouraï built 150 years ago but with all the modern conveniences: air conditioned in every room, TV, WiFi, fonctional kitchen and even a washer/drier. But the best part is the owner Hitty. He gave us great information about Kanazawa and Kyoto like what to see and where to eat. He even showed us some of the family heirloom from his great-great-grandfather who was a samouraï. And he came over immediately when I could not operate the microwave oven. He is friendly, helpful and speaks English well.

Summary: Very enjoyable stay at in a historic building. The rooms were clean, well maintained, and traditional Japanese. There were two tatami bedrooms on the second floor, and on the fist floor a comfortable sitting area, dining room with a large table and roomy seats for six, along with a functional kitchen, washer/dryer unit, and a nice deep ofuro (Japanese style bath for soaking) with separate shower for washing. What made the stay truly exceptional was the owners attention to details and ensuring our enjoyable experience. The rooms included tokonoma with beautiful ikebana flower arrangements provided by the owners wife, as well as a walk through of the rooms including the home’s ‘treasure room’ which contains fascinating artifacts from the Edo and Meiji periods. Definitely enjoyed and will stay here again if visiting Kanazawa.

Summary: Hitty-San has lovingly restored an old samurai house and it shows. The property is unique with all kinds of decorative touches. It’s conveniently located near the train station and local sightseeing. Most of all, Hitty-san’s gracious hospitality made for a memorable trip. Thank you Hitty!

Summary: This place was super unique in its look, culture, and history. It was clean and updated with modern amenities while keeping its Japanese aesthetic. The host was the one of the nicest people we have come across and you can tell that he is passionate about Japanese history. There are a good amount of places to eat, along with Omicho market being a close walk. Definitely recommend this place for a stay in Kanazawa.

Summary: Hitty was an extremely great host! He met us directly at the house and walked us through the place. He gifted us with sweets upon arrival (which were very yummy!) and even offered to fetch us to our destination on our first day. He is quick to respond to messages and provided help promptly when needed. He even helped us reserve seats at a local restaurant since we did not have a local number and didn't speak Japanese. The place looks better in real life than in photos. Although the place is old, it is extremely clean and has everything you need. Kitchen was small but modern and all you need. The house is split into 2 levels, with the sleeping area being on the 2nd floor. The stairs are steep and might be hard to climb for elderly and kids. It is also hard to carry heavy suitcases up the stairs. Regardless, the futons were super comfortable and warm for winter! Hitty even prepared Yukata sets for each of us, along with towels for each day and toothbrush sets. There was also complimentary tea and coffee for us to enjoy throughout our stay. Super convenient location close to the train station, the bus stops and convenience stores, all of which take only about 5 mins on foot. There are also many restaurants nearby of the Izakaya style where Japanese office workers gather for drinks after work. But the food and drinks were delicious and we enjoyed our visits to the eateries. Overall, a great stay and I would definitely recommend for everyone to book this!

Summary: This property was lovely. Only a few minutes away from the train station where you can get a bus to the main attractions and the property is a 15 minute walk away from the fish market. It is also close to many izakayas so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to food. There is a small kitchenette and groceries can be bought from the supermarket at the train station. Hitty San was a generous host and truly demonstrated the Japanese spirit of omotenashi. Although the property is not a conventional hotel, it was very clean and well set up. The tatami floors were heated which made spending time downstairs a delight during our visit in winter. Air conditioners were placed everywhere including the walkway and laundry room which made the whole house very comfortable. If you have very young children or elderly persons travelling with you, do note that the staircase is very steep. Apart from that, it was a great experience!

Summary: Wow what can I say.. this house was beyond perfect and without a doubt the best place we stayed in Japan. How often do you get to stay in the house of a samurai? The owner Hitty is one of the nicest people we’ve ever met. So warm and hospitable, he really made our visit memorable from start to finish. The house and decoration is stunning - everything is well thought out and made us feel at home. The location is great only 5 mins walk to the station and within walking distance of all major sites. Hitty gave us great tips on things to do - we especially loved the D T Suzuki museum. Kanazawa is a wonderful place to visit with lots to see from contemporary art to historic geisha and samurai districts. I 100% recommend choosing to stay here if you visit Kanazawa.. we are grateful to have such fond memories of Kanazawa. Thank you Hitty for your amazing hospitality.
