Positive: Jonni is a very kind and gracious host! His home has everything traveller would need, and he’s ensured that the facilities are clean and well-stocked with toiletries, towels and bathrobes. He has a brand new e-bike that I rented for the day at just ¥1,000 (which is much cheaper than rental shops)! The bike rental includes a lock and helmet, and the bike had a large basket at the front for my backpack. When I arrived, Jonni greeted me at the station and gave me a map with some great local spots to visit. He was warm and extremely helpful. I would definitely stay here again if I’m ever back in Shiga prefecture!

Positive: The host was very gracious and helpful. He kindly picked me up at the train station. The guesthouse was spotless and comfortable. The self serve kitchen was clean and well appointed. I especially appreciated the coffee machine. The house is in a quiet area, about a 5 minute walk from the local train station and a slightly longer 20 minute walk from the JR station. Either way, you will pass by some lovely traditional houses and temples. I enjoyed the beautiful temples away from the Kyoto crowds. I enjoyed a delicious soba noodle lunch at a local restaurant that's been in business for 300 years.

Positive: Jonny is great host. He has vast experiance living in Japan. He was very helpful with his advices and recomandations. He has a typical english sence of humor. He makes us felling like at home. Sakamoto itself is one of the most beautiful places in Japan, especially during the sacura blosom.
Negative: There is only one bathroom but it was not a problem for all five gests during our stay.

Positive: Jonni is very hospitable with a good sense of humour He offered to pick us up from the station and drive us to the station. He gave us useful tips for our stay. It was like staying at a friend‘s place.
Negative: Wish we had more time to see the sights in Sakamoto.

Positive: Johnni’s place is easily accessible by train from Kyoto. It offers a quiet location away from the city in a surprisingly beautiful and culturally rich town. The shrine precinct at the base of Mt Hiei is extensive, well maintained and surrounded by lush forests, verdant walking paths and trickling brooks. There is extensive stonework throughout the town. We had our best meal in a traditional Japanese setting at the 300 year old noodle house in Sakamoto. Johnni is a very welcoming and generous host. After being collected from the station, he took us on a tour of Sakamoto before sitting to chat about how to get the most from our stay. We felt immediately at home and comfortable about using the kitchen, dining room etc to prepare and eat our meals.
Summary: We highly recommend spending time at Johnni’s place if you seek a more authentic experience.
