Positive: Very peaceful, surrounded by forest, very comfortable, huge bath big enough for two, wood stove was lovely on the cold nights, deer running past other wild life as well, no phone or Internet signal, perfect digital TV and a selection of dvds.
Negative: Only £10 electric and a small basket of logs included, you have to take a meter reading and pay extra, which I suppose is fare but would have been nice to know before we arrived.

Positive: Lovely rural location and very private, ideal for a get away from city life or if your looking for seclusion and to get away from everything and just chill out very comfortable bed with a Jack and Jill bathroom and a well equipped Kitchen suitable for the size of cottage, as country person who likes space and privacy it could be a home from home Unfortunatly not the case as I had to return home the following day due to an emergency caused by storm damage which was hindered by the fact that there was no mobile service or internet at the property, phone signal could only be found approx a mile down the road (I discovered the following morning when i found out my wife had been trying to get me on the phone) which made it dificult to contact the agent who is based in London so when thing went wrong I couldn't phone anyone to complain or sort out alternative accomodation but this mattered little as my stay was cut short due to the emergency at home. would I book here again? Sorry No I wouldn't!
Negative: No. 1 The stove looks very inviting and as it was a cold night when I arrived and the heating was taking a while to heat the cottage and a seasoned user of a multifule stove I decided to light the Stove as it had already been made/prepped ready to light whilst I was cooking dinner, I had to quickly put the fire out as the smoke was filling the cottage! and bypassing the seals in both the stove door and the door glass resulting in having to open all the doors and windows in the cottage to air out the smoke. the cottage was freezing by this point but at least the smoke had disapated. The worring thing was that neither of the two smoke alarms went off, I can understand the one in the kitchen as it would have been a heat sensing alarm but the second one I found when testing the alarm should have gone off with the smoke as it was outwith the kitchen area, I also found no carbon monoxide detector anywhere in the cottage which is a requirement for wood burning and multifuel stoves and as a result of these issues I spent the only night in the cottage smelling like a bonfire, THE AGENT NEEDS TO ENSURE THAT THE STOVE IS SERVICED AND RESEALED TO PREVENT THIS ISSUE ARRISING AGAIN! No.2 Unwanted guests!
Summary: Very disapointing could have done better!

Positive: Our 3rd trip to this cottage. We love the location, the peace, and the tranquillity. It is remote, but that's what we go for. It's a great place to recharge your batteries. Don't expect Internet connectivity or mobile phone signals within the cottage. You need to stand outside at least 80 yards from the cottage to get a signal. The cottage itself has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Fully equipped kitchen, a wood burner, and a large comfy bed. Supermarkets are within a 10-minute drive. We had snow this year, and the estate manager,Alastair, did come to check on us to see if we were alright and if we needed anything, which was a welcome touch and offers reassurance that they are contactable if necessary. Overall, it was a lovely relaxing stay.
Negative: The cottage felt cool when we arrived, and we were surprised this year about how much the cost of the electricity had risen. We are aware that electricity is extra and has gone up for everyone, but last year, paying 14p per unit, up to 53p per unit, this time seemed a bit steep and added £160 to the cost of the stay. We only had the heating on low and spent more on using the fire. There are 2 large bags of logs provided, but we spent an extra £30 on logs and coal, therefore Total cost in addition to the cottage rental was £190. This needs to be considered if you are travelling here in winter. A nice touch if it's really cold (like for us this time) might be to offer an additional bag of logs or to knock an additional £10 of the price of electricity? Although the cottage is clean, we did feel that the furnishings are becoming a bit dated. Curtains need refreshing, and the pillows on the bed are flat and lumpy. These need replacing. The seat cushions on the settee are flat and could also do with replacing as they offer no support. The settee cover could also do with a good clean or replacing/ updating. The armchair was grubby, and you could see where people's heads had rested. The arms of the chair are also becoming threadbare. These suggestions don't need to cost much but would make a difference. Overall, we felt it just needs a bit of TLC to increase the appearance and comfort of the place. The above comments and suggestions however, by no way mean we won't return.
