Positive: It was characterful and service was exceptional. Food was superbly presented and varied. We liked the onsen.

Negative: Not a problem for me, but if onsens aren’t your thing, then there are no other washing facilities.

Positive: The staff were amazing. Location is perfect and the gardens around were stunning and I bet every season has a highlight. The food is amazing though western palate may get bored of so much rice and rice derived stuff even if it is made exceptionally well. The hotel itself needs a thorough update. While we actually chose it because we wanted a more traditional Japanese experience some of the facilities are showing their age - the tap in our dressing area ran very slowly and the sink plug didn’t work. The hotel had its heating on (warm to hot in early April) your only option was to switch it off and open a window. I never got to the onsen but wife loved it

Positive: The location is awesome. Really beautiful environment, full of nature. The hotel is a mixed between modern and traditional Japanese style. The food was very good, but also with some occidental feeling. In general it is a great place to stay, eat well and enjoy the island. Staff super friendly and I will definitely stay again.

Positive: A beautiful upscale ryokan with definite old world charm. We found the meal delicious, the baths great, but most of all the location - which was spectacular. We also loved the fact that the G8 stayed there and enjoyed a similar experience to our own.

Positive: The provided meals were wonderful. The staff was very gracious and helpful. The room was gorgeous and felt like we had travelled back in time (in a good way). The onsen bath was a nice added perk. The location was convenient to shrines, the Mt Misen ropeway, but not too close to the surprisingly busy shopping area (which was a good thing, as it gets crowded and noisy during the day)

Negative: Very minor things: there were traditional bath clothes provided, but no pajamas provided.

Negative: We booked the Ryokan experience with traditional tatami/futon room and full dinner. We had expected the Japanese dinner of many different courses to be explained and introduced but felt a bit rushed with each course. Food more ‘hotel’ than luxury advertised.

Positive: Very relaxing and zen. We love sitting at the balcony which is facing the mountain. The surrounding area is very quiet. The hike up the mountain from the property is lovely. Breakfast and dinner are included and are quite elaborate. The onsen is delightful at the end of a long day of outings. Staff members are attentive. Most do not speak English, but we seem to manage ok.

Negative: The futon is a little hard to get used to, but that is not unexpected. It is part of the ryokan experience.
