Climate and Weather Information:
Durango sits at 6512 feet above sea level and enjoys an ideal four-season climate with moderate temperatures year-round. Durango winters are usually mild and sunny with temperatures staying between 10 and 50 degrees. Despite Durango's snowfall averages about 71' each year, snow removal is manageable because Durango is sited in a low, sun-drenched valley. Spring brings warmer weather and rain (annual precipitation of 19' per year). Summer temperatures seldom climb more than the high 80s and rivers and reservoirs stay relatively full in summer, filled by melting snow from deep winter snows in the San Juan Mountains. Fall days are comfortably cool and dry, the perfect time for a mountain hike or a drive on one of the area’s Scenic Byways.
Purgatory Mountain Ski Resort has four different terrain parks for everyone from the new boarder to the most advanced
• The Paradise Freestyle Arena will cure all of your rail-riding, big-air ills.
• The Pitchfork Terrain Garden is home to a 300 foot Half Pipe, plenty of rails, bumps, and a medium sized jump at the bottom for some serious air.
• Divine Comedy is located just above the base of the high speed 6-pack chairlift. It’s the perfect place for the experienced terrain park enthusiast.
• Angel's Tread is the newest terrain park complete with two 8 ft. flat boxes.
At the Heart of Purgatory Mountain Resort
Purgatory Village offers just about everything you'll need on your visit. Take in the majestic views of the San Juan Mountains while perusing a variety of shops and restaurants, and of course skiing or riding the beautiful mountain. The Village is the center of your vacation, where you can relax in a beach chair in front of Purgy's or watch the evening alpenglow over the Needles Peaks.

Interesting Fact
Purgatory Mountain came into its modern day name in 1776 when several Spanish explorers were traveling on a nearby river. Some of their party got lost, and their bodies were never found. The other travelers believed the souls of the lost men would be relegated to Purgatory, and from this legend was born the designation, Purgatory Mountain, which originally opened as Purgatory Resort in 1965 and now operates as the year-round Durango Mountain Resort. Following this legendary expedition, the river was named “El Rio de las Animas Perdidas” or the River of Lost Souls (now the Animas River.)

Summary: Everything about this house was awesome. Form the cleanliness to the the localization of where it was. Far enough away from town and close enough to everything we needed. Great stay. Really enjoyed it.

Summary: The house was exquisite - just as described, perfect location, amenities to spare. Everything was perfect upon arrival and Jason was very helpful throughout our stay. My family and I stayed at the property for 3 days and everything from check in to check out was easy and wonderful. The pictures do not do this property justice. The waterscape alone was amazing. We would sit down by the swimming pond or on the balcony listening to the water, watching the sun rise, and having a great time making memories. There was plenty to do on the property- to keep my kiddos busy for hours! Couldn't recommend this place more!

Summary: This is one of the best properties I've ever stayed at. The hospitality was second to none. From a warm welcome message and gifts from local shops, to an abundance of golf balls, to serene surroundings, Jason and Cissielya's property had it all. 5/5 would recommend, worth every penny. The theater was awesome, hot tub was great, and even the non-golfers enjoyed hitting golf balls. We kayaked and swam in the pond, had fires by the water, and had a great time enjoying conversations at the many seating areas both indoors and outdoors around the property. This location being a great middle ground between Silverton and Durango made it convenient to get to Ice Lake to hike, but also head down town to Ore house for an incredible steak dinner.

Summary: Great house beautiful location!!!! The train does come by 3 times staring earlier in the morning and 3 times in the afternoon evening and does a loud whistle. The train was cool but jarring at first. You can literally stay at the house for multiple days and have plenty to do and a lovely time. The hosts were very accommodating as well.

Summary: We had 4 generations for this trip and the home was perfect for all. The views are unbelievable. The home is very comfortable and has lots to do. I even went swimming with my great granddaughter in the pond and I'm nearly 82 years old. There is a trampoline. lots of movies and a projection tv. We had a family movie every night. The kitchen is very well stocked. I highly recommend this home and we will be returning next year!

Summary: Do you like things that are awesome?!?! Yeah, me too! Property and the grounds are top notch, and the owners were super easy to work with/communicate with during the vacation. Having the iconic Durango to Silverton train roll by several times a day with a front row seat was super cool when we weren’t hitting golf balls across the pond. Memories made, three thumbs up (it’s a long story).
Rachel F. Mar 23, 2022 12:13:46 AM
