Positive: A charming, beautifully located if comically expensive hotel. We loved staying there - our room was a good size and simply but nicely decorated, with an amazing view of the lake and lots of thoughtful little touches like flossers, binoculars and a backpack for walking, etc. The common areas are warm and cosy with a nice atmosphere. The food (breakfast and restaurant) is good, and the service is friendly especially by Swiss standards. The location is literally perfect. You can walk to the station in 5 minutes, and to the town centre in about 10, going straight across the lake (clearly not in summer!), and the views are un-improvable. The price (we paid over 600 CHF for a night) is the only downside. The room and bathroom in particular were just not up to that level of pricing. It feels like a hotel whose management wants to aim at a more luxury crowd, stuck with a building that was built to be simple and more functional. Everything in their control was done immaculately, but the basic size of the rooms is something they can't change. We were recommended it by a Swiss friend who was stunned by how much more expensive it was than when he had stayed there a few years back. Everyone has their own idea of good value, and it's a huge complement to the hotel to say that we don't regret staying there, even at that price. But if they made the pricing a little more reasonable this would be hands down one of our favourite hotels.

Negative: The bathroom was absolutely tiny.

Positive: Great view over the lake. Close to train station but since it’s an uphill walk they also offer a shuttle service. Pretty good breakfast spread.

Negative: Restaurant staff was unfriendly at first but gradually warmed up. Claimed every table I asked for was reserved (for both breakfast and dinner). When I asked when the reservation was (as I was just going to have a quick supper of soup), they claimed they didn’t know and the party could show up anytime. Sounds like they didn’t want single diners to enjoy the beautiful view of the lake.

Summary: Overall a decent stay but may not select this property again.

Positive: Extremely friendly staff and very accommodating. Had a beer at the bar, for heading into the restaurant for dinner. I saw an interesting bourbon on the shelf and they went out of the way to find the value in price and presented it extremely well. All the room was small, I expected as much and offered a full range of necessities for a single person. While the bed was small, twin size, it was very comfortable. Even the view from the room brought a smile. The shuttle to the train station in the morning was extremely appreciated as it was $20 for a taxi and the train station to the hotel as I arrived after the shuttle hours of operation.

Negative: The only thing I didn’t like, was dinner. I had the Cordon Bleu and it just didn’t have a very good flavor. And it was served with way undercooked french fries. The vegetables were excellent. I also talked with a gentleman at the salad bar from the restaurant and he recommended a couple of things there that turned out to be extremely good. Thank you for that. Breakfast was rather lackluster, and had no interaction with any staff at all. However, it was included in the rate and it’s sufficed till I got on the train.

Summary: For me, this was a perfect hotel for a quick overnight. Again, quality staff.

Positive: My room had a beautiful view of the lake and the mountains covered by snow at night and early morning.

Negative: I wish they provided a ride with the train station. It was snowing when i arrived.
