Positive: Very nice water cooling ceremony and taiko demonstration Super comfortable Really nice staff Buffet breakfast and dinner are nice and varied

Negative: The hotel onsen is prohibited to tattooed persons, as opposed to all other public onsens in Kusatsu. Really disappointing. A bit far from center, but nothing too bad.

Positive: A really big, well equipped property in the area. Bath waters are amazing and Onsen facilities are very robust. We had private rotenburo room and I highly recommend it if anyone has tattoos as this hotel is not tattoo friendly for public bathing (but you can use covers or book a private bath). Buffet was just ok; I would’ve liked to try the kaiseki but was a bit intimidated! Futons were comfy; pillows were really stiff!! 🤣 Club Sakura was included in our package and you could drink free wine sake beer etc, that was nice.

Negative: Definitely a bit dated (someone said North Korea vibes and that’s sort of accurate 🤣) and it’s not the closest to town center, there’s many more charming places to stay that were smaller from what I saw. Honestly it’s quite uphill from town and it can be a BEAR of a walk if you aren’t in the mood. This was a good spot to try first if you’ve never been to Kusatsu, but I wouldn’t stay here twice. I speak a bit of Japanese but boy if your keigo isn’t razor sharp you’re gonna have a wild time w the staff. It was challenging. The service is great but they don’t really hold your hand too much if you’re a foreigner, which is totally fair I guess; you’re in rural Japan. We also had to walk downhill w our luggage to the bus terminal because they weren’t running the hotel shuttle for some reason? Not sure why. Couldn’t figure that one out. Ah well! Just a heads up.
