Positive: Quirky! There was a lot of memorabilia around as the hotel has a VERY long history. The staff were very welcoming and gave us coffee when we were early. They had a nice Onsen. The room was beautiful and massive with a big seating area. It was spotless.

Negative: Not much to Gifu which is an industrial city. Just used it to break our journey.

Positive: Absolutely loved my one night stay! Seriously, can't beat the location. Right on the river, within easy walking distance of the Gifu castle park & ropeway to the castle, the Gifu Daibutsu, the Kawaramachi area. By Japan standards, my room was plenty spacious, with a view of the river to the left, the castle on the hill to the right. The onsen style public bath was a real treat. I mean, a roten-buro, outdoor bath overlooking the river? Superb! The "Viking" all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast was also wonderful! I didn't expect such variety. All staff were friendly and helpful. I've been in Japan for ages, and do fine in Japanese, but English was provided, and sufficient, so non Japanese speakers should be OK.

Negative: There isn't anything that I didn't like. I'll be back!

Negative: Parking! Needed a staff to drive me to park at another parking lot far away. So if u're in a rush, need to set aside at least 15 mins each way.

Positive: The onsen is just awesome open from 5am till midnight. They have a lot of amenities even socks and a yukata to use during your stays. The staff was helpful and professional, the breakfast buffet was huge with Western and Japanese food. The hotel has a big smoking common room. We had an awesome view of the park and the river from a giant window in the room (the room was really big), we enjoyed waking up to this.

Negative: The facilities are a bit old but still comfortable, so it was ok

Positive: Lovely traditional Japanese Inn, a large room which suited us all. Lots to do in the area including Gifu Castle and Squirrel village / cable car ride etc - would strongly recommend
