Positive: This is not a modern hotel, its a restored 17th mansion, a cross between a grand family home and a miniature castle. Lovely thick stone walls, and shuttered windows keep the rooms cool so no need for aircon. It has been wonderfully decorated by Tom and Liz, with beautiful gardens and a pool on the rooftop with spectacular views and plenty of places to chill... Loved the location, easy walk into the town centre - you get a good view of the Sommieres rooftops from the pool area. Breakfast was a wonderful mix of fresh fruits, viennoiserie, a selection of breads, home made jams and marmalade and local honey. All of this served in the garden on tables decorated with lovely tablecloths and crockery.
Negative: Really difficult to find anything I didn't like. Perhaps the only comment I would make is that I missed my eggs at breakfast. Whilst I loved what we had, I crave protein in the morning (eggs, ham, cheese, etc)..
Summary: Perfect location to stay when exploring the Gard and further afield.

Positive: We had a fantastic stay with Liz and Tom - welcoming hosts. Wonderful breakfast in the garden every morning, quiet surroundings, beautiful pool area with views over the roof tops. We stayed in the family suite, very spacious and with a small kitchen.

Positive: Hotel de L'Orange is a real gem that we will be going back to in the future. We stayed for 3 nights with a 9 month old, and it was the most refreshing and re-energising stay. Liz and Tom were excellent hosts, they made sure we were comfortable, our room was more of a suite with a kitchenette, which was ideal as we had all of the baby's kit to clean and sterilise every day. Our delight was the design of the hotel. As soon as you walk in through the gardens, the courtyard and the ground floor you can tell that the owners love this place and have curated the rooms with originality. The breakfast was perfect, simple but quality fruit, breads and spreads with beautiful place settings. And the rosé wine delivered to the room was delicious and refreshing on a hot day. As the hotel is built into the hill, the swimming pool is on the roof where you get lovely views of Sommieres and the local church tower.
Negative: Finding the place can be difficult with sat nav so best to call ahead. It's not obvious and it's easy to drive right past the entrance and go up to the old chateau, which we did.
