Positive: Because of a temporary issue with the bathroom extraction fan our room was changed without fuss. Our bedroom was large, comfortable and well appointed. The converted abbey has wonderful grounds to walk around and a large lake to admire. It is 30 minutes from the ferry port at St Malo making it the perfect place to stop after travelling through France. The restaurant offered superb food on fine dining lines, a lovely surprise and a wonderful way to end the holiday.

Negative: Nothing.

Summary: Perfect place to rest after driving to St Malo to get the early ferry home, we will return again.

Positive: Excellent setting. Friendly staff and comfortable bedroom. A wonderful restaurant with beautiful view, amazing atmosphere, very polite & professional staff and exquisite cuisine!

Negative: Small swimming pool that should not be shared with children if we are talking about ‘peacefulness’ and ‘tranquility’. More lounge chairs around the pool would help too.

Positive: The grounds were beautiful, I slept fantastically and lake offered a stunning view out of room window. A diversity of trees and plants populating the well-kept garden. The pool entertained the children. The dinner at the restaurant was exquisite.

Negative: Maybe the breakfast could have been refilled more quickly - felt like it ran out too fast for the amount of people dining.

Summary: Beautiful, peaceful setting with friendly staff and a fantastic pool in the garden.

Positive: The entrance courtyard and the main part of the hotel, surrounding the garden and pool, is very charming. The staff are also friendly and helpful. And the breakfast is decent, if expensive.

Negative: The new wing containing our rooms is completely soulless and, worse, our rooms faced out onto a pretty neglected parking area and the (busy!) staff smoking area was immediately adjacent to our outdoor seating. If you are lucky enough to have a garden-facing room in the original part of the hotel, you will no doubt have an entirely different experience. We also were disappointed with our experience when we went for a drink in the bar in the evening. The small bar is beside the restaurant and is a pleasant enough room, but it seems to serve as a busy thoroughfare for the restaurant staff, and the small bar counter itself seems to be the restaurant's glass cleaning station. So you're left with the feeling of intruding on the restaurant's inner workings. All in all, the hotel has real potential to live up to its old-world, four star billing. And if you got a better room and ate at the restaurant, you might even feel you got what you came for. But we had a very disappointing experience.
