Positive: The staff is very friendly and helpful. The lady in charge did all she could to make us feel at home. You get a wonderful view from the terrace right outside your room or from the terrace on the third floor. You get to use the kitchen which is very handy if you are on a budget. You get to exercise a bit walking to the beach and restaurants. Nights are peaceful and quiet so you have a good night's sleep.

Negative: These are just suggestions to make the visitor's stay more comfortable, add a chair or small bedside table. We were four people sharing the bathroom, we definitely needed some shelves to leave our toothbrushes and toothpaste somewhere.

Summary: All in all, staying at hostal Alcazaba is good value for money for a big family.

Positive: Staff were super helpful (even with my limited Spanish) and booked me a whale watching tour which was incredible. Breakfast was decent (coffee with toast and egg) and the kitchen was small but functional

Negative: It is a bit out of town (about a 20 minute walk) but tuktuk’s are super cheap so that wasn’t much of an issue. It was also a bit loud at night and there were quite a few dogs barking at night and in the early hours of the morning

Positive: Maria & Osvaldo immediately welcomed me in with kindness and helped me book a whale watching tour for the following day. The place is very clean with comfortable beds, pillows and hot water in the shower. It’s in a good location with a view of the wate, just a ten minute walk from the town. There are also plenty of moto taxis nearby to go wherever you need if you don’t want to walk. Their place is very secure, always locked but they open up quickly when you return. The breakfast is simple but good, one egg with toast, juice or fruit, coffee or tea. There is also a communal kitchen. Most importantly, when I got really sea sick from the tour to Isla de la plata, I asked Maria for water and toast and she kindly made me hot tea, toast and lovingly sat with me until I began to feel better. Her and her husband are really good, kind people and I highly recommend staying here when in Puerto Lopez. Osvaldo has great sense of humor :) They also offer laundry service if you need. You can also communicate with them directly via WhatsApp which is helpful.

Summary: Amazing stay with such kind people!

Positive: Nice room, no AC though.

Negative: Far from the pier (a good 30 min walk). Full of bugs although that's probably the same for all the hotels in the area. Dirt road that gets muddy if it rains.
