Roundup Cabin | Historic - Modern - Artist Cabin on remote private ranch

3 Bedroom Cabin in Roundup

The cabin overlooks a private cattle ranch on Fattig Creek in the Bull Mountains roughly 50 minutes northeast of Billings, Montana. Originally the HX ranch headquarters, the 1890 log structure was moved to its current location in 2004. Expanded and redesigned by the owners and thoughtfully restored by a local master craftsman, it merges the historic with the contemporary with a glimpse into modern life on the range.
The cabin sits within the large, family-run ranch and offers peace and quiet as well as time for reflection, reading, writing and other endeavors. Ideal for nature lovers, the ranch is home to a variety of prairie flora and fauna: Ponderosa pine, sagebrush, native wildflowers, seasonal elk herds, deer, cattle, horses, coyotes and Sandhill cranes. Stargazing is a singular activity as there is no light pollution. Given so many hunting inquiries, please note that we are unable to accommodate hunting on our ranch or any access to state land nearby during the fall season.
We are happy to suggest local activities and events which can be sent under separate email.
Accommodates up to 6 people (three queen beds) comfortably.

Summary: This property is about 8 miles of the main road in the middle of a massive ranch. Behind the house are fields and sandstone bluffs which are relatively easy to get to and hike. The house is very comfortable. Has everything you need. I would recommend this as a place to just get away from everything (and everyone). The quiet at night is only interrupted by the elk and coyotes. And the night sky is brilliant! House has 2 queens, 2 twins and a couple couches. 2 couples would be comfortable here but more than that probably not. There is no tv and no cell coverage (unless you hike to the top of the bluffs where the cell reception is awesome!). Polly is great to work with and provided all the information you need for a relaxing stay. Would recommend you do your shopping in Billings because you'll only find basics in Roundup.

Summary: This lovely, hand crafted and elegantly presented property sits on a gentle knoll in a golden valley, surrounded by yellow pines, tall grasses, and miles of pastoral beauty. Roughly 35 minutes East of Roundup and about an hour North of Billings, you're in the middle of one of Montana's iconic cattle ranches. A ranch that has been in the family for generations, on land that is historically significant, deeply respected and well loved. Cattle and horses, cowboys and cowgirls are as much a part of the story here today as the herds of elk, deer and wildlife that pass through. Watching the daily life of this place unfold before you is one of the pleasures of spending time here. And for artists, there is endless inspiration. Spectacular natural beauty in the form of long valleys, quiet roads, sandstone cliffs, deep shadows and golden hours. Morning or evening, the light here doesn't disappoint. Violet skies in the morning and sunsets spilling over the tree tops with magentas, yellows, and orange reds. And deep blue, star-filled nights. Rustic yet chic, comfortable yet elegant, every possible detail has been considered and provided for, including a collection of art supplies, canvases and papers for anyone who wishes to begin - or continue - to pursue their creative passions. The kitchen is picture perfect, with every amenity available. The main bath offers a large soaking tub and plenty of hot water. The living room is centered around a gorgeous wood burning fireplace. The bedrooms are serene and comfortable. A true hidden gem. A true retreat. A place to find yourself, to be inspired by. Working with the owner, who is herself an accomplished artist, was an easy and enjoyable process. This cabin, in this place is one of those rare, get-away-from-it-all experiences not to be missed.
