Positive: The place was simply fantastic. Great hosts, great views, great weather, great food… Near Tavern may get crowded and noisy at times but only because the food is… you guessed it GREAT! It was all like being in another happy dimension but without the use of modern chemistry. We will do our best to come back as soon as we can!

Positive: Our family of four spent five unforgettable nights at Hiona cottage in Easter 2022. We swam every day in the rocky, crystal clear waters around the house. The cottage is in a middle terrace position with a house either side and a taverna on the end, but all surrounding facilities were shut and we were almost always entirely alone to enjoy the incredible view and the sound of the countryside as well as the waves. We were able to completely relax on the small terrace overlooking the sea and wind down into holiday mode. It really does feel like the 'ends of the earth'. Antonis our host visited a couple of times and was supportive and very kind. We happily self catered on the three ring stove with mini oven and small fridge. We visited the Minoan palace at Xakros, the extraordinary Xakros Gorge (on different days), wonderful beaches at Vai and Mazida where we swam frequently and enjoyed water that was cold on entry but soon warmed up. We absolutely loved this cottage, hope to return and that it stays this quiet and calm in the future.

Negative: There was nothing we didnt like, but possible things for future visitors to bear in mind are that the house is charming in its simplicity (the internet worked fine though!) and in April, was cool at night and in the morning. This could be a big plus in roasting weather! There were no open restaurants in the period of our visit - but this suited us just fine!
