Note: This cottage was recently given complete updates throughout. Fresh paint, new carpet in the bedroom, and total kitchen makeover with all brand new appliances!!
Nestled on a hillside above our Trailside Cottage, this cottage offers spectacular views of the river, and is more private being nestled at the top of the hill along a treeline. The oversized screened in porch provides views of the bluffs and the river. The kingsized bed is loaded with pillows and Tommy Bahama bedding for an elegant and restful night's sleep. The oversized chairs and the adjustable smart tv are perfect for settling in for a good movie.
The cottage's proximity to the river, and the historic Katie trail are perfect for those who want to get away from it all and enjoy bicycling or hiking or fishing along the Missouri River. Just a 15 minute walk from Cooper's Landing, where there is a campground, food trucks and live music during the spring, summer and fall seasons, you can enjoy a night out with beautiful sunset views of the river.
Our favorite time of year at the river is winter. There are fewer people, making winter hikes along the trail filled with wildlife and quiet solitude. Just a few minutes south along the trail from our cottage is an historic marker of a campsite for Lewis and Clark as they went up the Missouri in the 1800's.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a RURAL area. You will see wildlife - including deer, fox, coyotes, ground hogs, hawks, opossums, raccoons and the occasional armadillo. You will also encounter neighborhood dogs. There is no leash law in the county. All the local dogs are very friendly. Remi is a black lab who lives across the street. He loves to visit new people in the cottage, and will most likely bring a stick, turn three times, sit and bark until you throw the stick. If you do not want him around, go inside for 15-20 minutes and he will run off to the next shiny new thing. Please do not call his owner. Remi will return home after making his rounds. While the county is off leash - the Katy Trail requires leashes as it is a state park, and there are runners, biker riders, and other dogs will likely be on the trail as well.

Summary: I can not say enough good things about this property and it’s host. Beautiful atmosphere, amazing scenery and environment, quiet and peaceful area, LOTS to do. Town is just a short, scenic 15 minute drive from this property. Immediate, detailed and wonderful communication with the host. This place is stocked with EVERYTHING you need. It even had beer and a frozen pizza for us. Recommend 10 out of 10.

Summary: The location and view were great. Our daughter attends Mizzou and we wanted to bring our dog for a visit. This was a great place, so close to Columbia yet it felt far away for us to gather and spend time together. Loved the Hy-Vee store, had an awesome dinner, in the beautiful, remodeled kitchen. Although the weather was not the best, we had a great time inside with all the games. The host made it feel like home and made us feel special with all the extra amenities provided. We look forward to staying there again.

Summary: This place exceeded our expectations. It is a great place to stay if you love being on the Katy Trail. It’s located right across the road from this lovely place. Although we were out of season for the local nightlife(coopers landing), we still found entertainment in nearby Columbia. We plan on coming back to stay during peak season. The amenities were perfect for a short and long term stay. It’s definitely a home away from home!

Summary: Thoroughly enjoyed a long weekend at this cozy yet amenity filled home. Loved being nestled in beautiful surroundings close to numerous parks and trails. The property manager was very accomodating, helpful, and provided pleasant surprises at every turn, from fire starters and s'mores to pizza and coffee. Already thinking about when to come back!!

Summary: The place was very nice very clean great communication with the owners who take pride in making the stay wonderful. They had a bottle of wine and a pizza in the freezer, so who knows what you’ll get They had a s’mores basket if you want to do a fire outside and make s’mores They pretty much thought of everything .Check it out you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what they thought to have setup for you. Best one I’ve stayed in yet.

Summary: We very much enjoyed our stay at the Hilltop River Cottage. It was clean, cozy and well-stocked. The host, Christi, was friendly and helpful and provided many thoughtful and welcoming touches. The location of the property was perfect. It offered a nice getaway from the city, privacy, wildlife sightings and proximity to the Katy Trail, which we rode our bikes on nearly every day during our stay. It was also close to Cooper's Landing, where we enjoyed food trucks , drinks and live music with a view of the Missouri River. Even Rockbridge State Park, which contains a number of great trails to ride and hike with our dogs, was quite close. And when we wanted or needed to go into town, it was still a quick and easy drive. We have visited Columbia several times, and this is by far the best place we have stayed. We are looking forward to our next visit.
