Positive: Friendly, welcoming staff! Dinner was a tasty and clean kaiseki with lots of yuba dishes. Breakfast buffet was basic and traditional, water served in plastic not glass. Great location across the street from the lake and a quick walk to the falls.

Negative: The hotel itself has a musty smell and common rooms are dated and in serious need of refreshing, while my room was in general was very clean, the couch had a stain on it. I would not recommend staying on the second floor if you get a terrace as your lake view is obstructed by the roof below - ask for a higher floor.

Summary: Great location makes up for some other aspects

Positive: The hospitality of the staff was exceptional. I brought my parents to Lake Chuzenji and only realized upon arrival that the facility does not have a lift. The hotel team went out of their way to help, kindly arranging for my parents’ room to be moved from the 4th to the 2nd floor. Thanks to their thoughtfulness, our stay was very comfortable. The room itself was lovely, with an amazing view over the lake.

Negative: The outdoor hot spring was a beautiful setting, but the water temperature felt a little too hot, which made it difficult to stay in for long.

Positive: Fantastic ryokan with clean rooms and lovely inane. It’s traditional and quaint - feels a bit dated but that is part of the charm. Staff are delightful and very attentive. Dinner is wonderful kaisen experience. Perfect location with easy walk to waterfalls and 5k morning run around the lake to old embassies. Boat trip is across the road and bus stop opposite for trip up to the forests. 30 mins from the main shrines on the bus so all round winner

Negative: There was no elevator, so the waitress had to bring all our luggage up to the rooms.

Positive: Great view, quite clean and provides meal.

Negative: Not a good value for money, mostly charging for the location. I think the fair price will be around 15,000 yen a night. I paid twice more plus for dinner that didn’t worth it at all. If you can drive for dinner somewhere else - better do that. Dinner meal is just tiny. Imagine, according to the menu I supposed to have a soup but I don’t even remember a soup there! Everything was just tiny. Breakfast was fine though! However, their cafeteria was so dull, with no windows! Also regarding the tiny onsen. I just don’t trust the cleanness. Tiny, with little water circulation and the hotel was all booked with Chinese tourists mostly…

Positive: Everything. Food, location, comfortable beds, balcony view, hot shower, and public onsen (that is tattoo friendly).
