Positive: location good for exploring Northumberland

Negative: No name plate 'Hare View Cottage' outside so confusion on arriving. Keys not available before arriving, told by neighbor to try the back door! Msg received from owner after we arrived. Clean on surface but when looking deeper ingrained dirt on back of lounge door, mould on shower screen seal and in corner of bathroom window sill. No plugs for sink in kitchen or bathroom sink. No bowl for washing up. Heating on;y works if fire lit, hearth grate burnt through so not useable. No latch on batrhroom door so not able to secure closed.

Summary: Ok for an overnight but not value for money if staying for a week.

Positive: The location was spot on for what we wanted to do, which was to visit both Cragside and Alnwick on our way back south from a trip to Scotland. Driveway will easily fit 2 cars. Living room is comfortable and a good size, as is the main bedroom. Bathroom is big and there was plenty of hot water (once we found the switch). We had a wonderful meal at the Cook and Barker pub in Newton-on-the-Moor (9 mins away), highly recommend a visit there

Negative: Whilst it was clean, it could have been cleaner (grubby finger marks on the doors, cobwebby, strong smell of dog - possibly the latter two were down to the cottage being closed up for a while?). Lacking in tumblers to drink from (only 2). Lacking a lock or even a proper catch on the bathroom door, so it would swing open without warning (a shoe had to be put in the way to stop it happening). Great hanging rail in main bedroom, but no hangers. All of the above are easy fixes, so will hopefully be sorted asap. Would advise that the twin room is best used by kids as there was very little floor space (although there was a useful chest of drawers).

Summary: Great location, tired cottage.

Positive: Very clean. Nice welcome gifts. Extremely comfortable beds.

Negative: If I were to split hairs Hot water made a loud sound when ran. Just a little maintenance issue. Other than that 10/10

Positive: Nice location, handy parking, tea, coffee and biscuits etc was lovely

Negative: There were no directions given beforehand so had to get in touch just before we arrived- the host did respond very quickly with great instructions but it would just have been easier if they were available with the booking. The house was very cold and there's no central heating (if there is, it wasn't obvious at all how to turn it on). There were space heaters in every room which is good but it wouldn't be safe to leave those on over night so very cold when we woke up in the morning. Also would've been nice to have those turned on by the host before we arrived so it wasn't 14° when we got there... There was no hot water so couldn't bathe the kids. Why wasn't the hot water switched on before we got there? A welcome pack of information would have been so handy and probably would have countered a lot of the negative points about this property.
