Positive: Very large complex and beautiful accommodation 15 minutes away from entrance to Hwange National Park. The rooms are simple but well furnished for the price. Tours can be booked directly at the hotel. There is a pool, but it is considered very small when the hotel is fully booked. With a bit of luck, elephants will come to the pool or to the watering hole to drink.

Negative: As much as we would have liked to give the resort a positive review, the staff unfortunately ruined the experience. Contrary to the reviews about the friendly staff, we unfortunately did not have a good experience. The hotel was fully booked during our stay and seemed to be overwhelmed. The staff proactively informed us that all rooms were fully booked, to which we replied, “That's great.” They responded, “No, it's just annoying and only good for the owner, because he can make more money.” This is not how you should speak to guests. In addition, upon arrival at around 12 noon, we expressed our desire to take a tour to the Painted Dog Conservation centre in the afternoon. This was confirmed for 3:30 p.m. When it was time to leave, we were told that it was no longer worth it, as parts of the centre were already closed at 3:30 p.m. and we would no longer be able to see the wild dogs – the rest was open until 5 p.m. They had hours to inform us of this, but instead they kept us waiting and in the end we didn't get a chance to see the dogs. We were unable to visit the centre on this trip as the next day was already fully booked for us with a game drive. For the full-day game drive organised by the hotel, we were asked about our meal preferences the evening before. They confirmed that a vegetarian option would be provided. The next day, there were four of us in the car. The meal consisted of dry rice, chicken, and beef. There was no vegetarian option, and the other guests could not eat beef (due to their religion). In addition, the staff at the reception did not seem very motivated our stay. However, this feedback does not apply for the staff at the restaurant - they were very friendly (Leo and Genius).

Positive: This is my second visit. I love the quirky nature of Gwango. It is rustic but clean and comfortable. The staff are exceptionally helpful and responsive. The beds were comfortable, the food tasty and one of the guides (Carlos) was extremely knowledgeable about flora and fauna.

Negative: It would have been nice to have some bottled water in the room overnight as it was warm. One of the beds needs tightening up as it was wobbly when turning over. There is limited WIFI near the bar area but that is also partly a good thing when you are out in nature.

Summary: Our second visit was as good as the first!

Positive: The pool was lovely, the staff were friendly and rooms were kept neat.

Negative: We really struggled to get hot water from the shower... it takes really long to heat up and the flies are crazy.
