Beautiful post and beam home with spacious deck overlooking private pool and spectacular, pristine view over 5 houseless miles and over the Hudson River. This home is perfect for singles, couples or families. Relax around the pool by yourself, take in the view from the deck or watch your children and friends enjoy the chance to run in the grass, swim, and have a great time. Owner can install a guard railing under the existing railing if needed for small children.
The house is perfectly located for people who need to commute to NYC or friends and relatives to come visit. It is an hour and 15' by car from the city; trains run hourly from NYC to Cold Spring and back and take the same hour and 15 minutes plus a 12 minute drive to the house. Cold Spring village, 12 minutes away, offers charming shops and excellent restaurants. The Hudson Valley Shakespeare company puts on delightful shows under a tent looking over the river.
The first floor has a fully equipped kitchen -- dish washer, microwave, toaster oven, etc. -- with a counter that opens into the dining room. The dining room opens into the living room, both of which have floor-to-ceiling windows looking over the woods and miles of wooded hills and on over the Hudson River Valley, with not a house in sight! The dining room opens onto the wrap-around deck. Also on the first floor is a half-bath and a den with a pull-out couch.
Upstairs is the master bedroom (BR#1) with a queen bed and a second bedroom (BR#2) with a queen bed and three twin beds and a full bath.
Downstairs is a private suite with a bedroom (BR#3) with a king size bed, a door out to a quiet spot and the pool, and another full bathroom. Also downstairs is the washer/dryer.
The house is designed for seamless indoor/outdoor living. The spacious deck has a picnic table with umbrella, lounge chairs and bench seating along the entire perimeter. The stairs down from the deck lead to the pool.
The pool is an irregular oblong shape and blends in beautifully with the surrounding countryside because of its shape and grey color. With additional seating and a grassy area, the pool enjoys the same gorgeous view as the deck. A flower garden in front of the deck adds to the beauty of the area as does a small rock garden beside the pool.
On the other side of the house is a grassy area with room for badminton, as well as the parking area.
When you are ready to venture beyond the house, there are many options! Shopping, restaurants and movies are nearby; the quaint downtown of Cold Spring with antiques, restaurants and more is only 12 minutes away; there are multiple areas for hiking, biking, kayaking and golfing; museums in the area include Boscobel (with a summer Shakespeare festival), Dia, and Storm King Art Center. Children's activities include SplashDown Beach Water Park and the Taconic Outdoor Education Center.

Summary: Penelope was a wonderful host who left very helpful overviews of how everything worked in the home as well as where to go in town. The property is spectacular and this is a truly magical place. The home is very clean and Penelope even provided spices and access to her herb garden to add that little extra touch to our stay.

Summary: The house, the grounds and that extraordinary view were perfect for us and our 19yo twins. We were able to use it as a base to explore the Hudson Valley and, because of the ease of the nearby Metro North stop, to have many friends up from NYC to visit. The flexibility of the sleeping arrangements meant we could accommodate family and friends overnight easily, and having coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening on that deck was a daily joy. The owners were generous, communicative and great hosts from a distance. Everything in the description of the house is absolutely accurate -- not something we've found at every place we've rented. Thank you!

Summary: Our family (parents and three adult children) had a wonderful time at this house last year. We liked it so much, we are returning this summer! The wrap-around deck, overlooking a long, forest valley is fabulous. You can spend all day there. The deck has a big picnic table, a chaise lounge and plenty of comfortable chairs and little tables, a gas grill, and a charcoal grill. Inside, the first floor has an open layout with the kitchen, dining area and living room flowing into each other, facing a wall of windows overlooking the forest, with views of the hills beyond, and the sky. The pool is refreshing and close enough to the house to have a chat with folks on the deck while lounging in the pool. This place is very comfortable and relaxing and totally "away from it all" - yet easy travel to NYC by train or car. Cold Spring offers restaurants, and a park by the Hudson. Dia Beacon and Storm King are short drives away. Highly recommended!!

Summary: Our family enjoyed almost two months from mid-July - Labor Day 2013 at this beautifully maintained house in a breathtaking setting. The owners couldn't have been more accommodating and generous with their home, and were enthusiastic for us to make it our home for the summer with our children. The house itself is warm and inviting, filled with light, a fantastic kitchen, every bed and bath item you can think of, down to the bug spray, and a fabulous deck to lounge on and view the unbelievable hummingbirds and flowers every morning. The hammock was a favorite spot, as was the beautiful pool. We enjoyed the adorable town, and the ease of location to get to places like Dia Beacon, or hiking, though we were most happy staying home and enjoying the peace and beauty of the house and its property. Any difficulties or questions were easily and quickly remedied by the lovely owners. I cannot recommend this rental property more highly. We are looking forward to returning to this wonderful place that felt like home, and was difficult to leave!
