Positive: We stayed in a suite with a terrace, the place was very nicely decorated, clean, tidy, spacious and very cozy. We came on vacation with our children and they enjoyed it very much and so did we. The hotel staff was very nice and happy to help us with whatever we needed. We highly recommend this place!

Positive: We chose to come here for the beautiful location at 50 meters from the river Waal and because we could bring our dog. It was a wonderful experience! The beds were very comfortable. Although the restaurant offered breakfast, we did not take breakfast at the restaurant. There was a small kitchen for coffee, tea and making breakfast in the room which was very handy. Only a cooker for eggs was missing. The apartment was beautifully designed and the room that consisted of different spaces in the contrescarpgalery spoke of its military history, without being intimidating. The location of the fort and the way it is restored is spectacular and the kitchen of the restaurant is superb!!

Negative: There were some minor issues that the keepers of this place might want to look into: The shower has only one temperature and cannot be adjusted, it gets colder when used for a few minutes. I had understood that there would be a double bed but there were two separate mattresses placed side by side, with also two separate covers. A little uncomfortable if one is a couple. The small bedside tables were bent by heavy weight, which made them impossible to use for a glass of water or something similar. And finally the two very nice designed chairs at the table were so heavy, that it was not inviting to put them outside in the sun, so perhaps two light chairs to use outside might be an idea.

Summary: A wonderful place to visit, filled with history and run by a very enthusiastic staff! Go there!

Positive: Very comfortable large room, good shower and stored our bikes in the room. We had to cycle about 20 minutes away to get dinner. Breakfast was OK, friendly hosts.

Negative: Some fresh fruit at breakfast.

Positive: The location was great, right by the Waal. And the rooms were cool--very much appreciated in a heatwave. We had our own terrace which was also very welcome. Appreciate that it is run by a stichting.

Negative: Polyester bathtowels. And the room was not serviced during our five-day stay (I get the impression that most people stay only a night or two: the staff seemed surprised that we would stay so long).

Summary: Highly recommended as a quirky and casual place to stay, in historic and beautiful surroundings.
