Positive: Love the building and all the artwork on display. The restaurant was under renovations, so I cannot comment on that, but the breakfast was very good. Gallo Pinto , eggs, , fried plantain and fresh fruit , bread for toasting and a variety of cereals were all ready for buffet style service. The patio in the front is a great place to enjoy while waiting for a taxi. I slept with the window open and didn’t hear the train until maybe around 5 AM, it wasn’t louder than the bird that was also singing outside.

Negative: The surrounding areas are a bit mixed, but I felt safe enough to walk about by myself. There is a nice restaurant just around the corner and the Museo Nacional is but a few minutes away.

Positive: This is a great hotel in a fabulous location BUT it needs a lot of maintenance.

Negative: The door handle was falling off and the shower taps were broken. It took ages to work out how to get water and just as long to work out how to turn the taps off. We had stayed here before and the room was tiny so I upgraded and paid more for the 2nd stay, but didn’t feel like it was an upgrade at all. The only upgrade was two slightly bigger beds than the previous room but the room was no bigger and the bathroom was smaller. I felt the first room was better value for money.

Summary: Great location, beautiful hotel but needs work.
