Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Nice architecture and a quiet location. Breakfast was nice with a very helpful server.

Negative: The host never responded to our messages. Signage to the property was inadequate especially given the remote location. No one was there to greet guests and there wasn’t an office location. We wandered the property for fifteen minutes trying to make contact. Finally, a laborer was located who spent the next ten minutes on the phone trying to determine which room was reserved for us. The room was located up a narrow, long, and steep stairway. There was no assistance given to take baggage upstairs. The room was quite warm and smelled dank due to the lack of a trap in the drain next to the bath which allowed for the entry of sewer gas. Four of the six light bulbs in the bathroom were inoperative. The pool had been drained for repair of storm damage and apologies were offered, but not discounts. I must emphasize that the people who we came in contact with were very kind and helpful, but management and execution were non-existent. Too bad, the house is like a grand old lady without a caregiver. Charming, but worn and faded.

Summary: The once grand home is sadly like a rudderless ship.
