Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: My partner and I spent five magical days at Finca Carrizales. The finca is set in truly breathtaking mountainous surroundings, surrounded by coffee plantations and unspoilt nature, with daily sightings of birds in every colour imaginable. It is peaceful, authentic and deeply connected to its environment. Imelda, Verónica, Carlos, Sebastián, Manuela and the family were exceptional hosts. We were very sorry to learn that the head of the family had recently passed away, and we are genuinely grateful that, despite this, they welcomed us so warmly and made our stay so memorable. We were extremely well looked after. The home-cooked meals were excellent, and the finca’s freshly brewed, home-grown coffee was outstanding — enjoyed with beautiful views across the landscape. We liked it so much that we filled our suitcases with it. Sebastián guided us on a horse and mule ride through challenging terrain. His local knowledge of birds, plants and the surrounding plantations, along with his good English and humour, greatly enriched the experience and made it a real highlight. Jardín is 20 minutes away, and our hosts were very helpful in arranging transport, making it easy to explore. Transport to and from Medellín was also arranged by the finca and provided by Juan Sebastián in his modern Toyota 4x4 pickup, which we strongly recommend given the road conditions.
