Travel Purpose: business

Positive: The size of the property and the location suited us, as it was near to the venue for a family wedding we were attending. The house is very big and the children enjoyed the room with the bunk bed, toys and dressing-up clothes. The private pool was appreciated by us all.

Negative: The house is rustic and rambling. The house was generally clean on arrival, though there were some cobwebs. The freezer in the hallway had mould at the bottom and we did not use it. There was another fridge/freezer in the outside kitchen which was clean and looked quite new. Only cold water to the basin in the upstairs toilet and no lock. We had to request towels which were not at the property on the day of arrival. They were clean, but just an assortment of odd patterned towels, unlike the white towels you usually get at a rental property. Similarly, the bed linen was old and mismatched, but clean. The beds in the upstairs rooms were not very comfortable, 4'6" doubles with thin pillows. One room had a very low bed on the floor which we didn't use. There were a lot of belongings in the house: opened food, books, photos, ornaments, but there was space for us to store our clothes, even if we had to distribute them around the bedrooms as not all rooms had wardrobes or hanging space. Unfortunately, we suffered a heatwave whilst we were there. No fault of the property, and there were fans in the bedrooms, but it was incredibly hot all the time. There was a wasp infestation at the side of the property, above and inside the external kitchen/living space, which was quite problematic. Luckily, no-one got stung. We were shown some insecticide, but there were too many nests to tackle. We did strip the beds, remove the rubbish to the bins, empty the dishwasher and put dishes away as requested by the host, but she sent a message saying she was upset that the property was left in disorder and with crumbs on the work surfaces. I think perhaps as a new host there were false expectations of how clean the property might be left after a big group had been staying for a week. The night before departure there had been a big storm resulting in a power cut.
