Positive: Staff was excellent and attentive, food (breakfast, dinner and afternoon tea) was good with good service, lovely house and grounds, with beautiful walks in the countryside

Negative: Quite a small spa, acoustics in the the rooms weren’t great (could hear baby crying in the next room fairly well), room service took 1h30 to be delivered (hotel wrote off the cost after we complained)

Positive: Lovely historic property with a relaxing spa. Rooms, communal spaces, and the spa were all very clean. Beds incredibly comfortable, and we slept well. The Great Hall was a wonderful space to have drinks. Food was delicious both for dinner and breakfast, and the service was exceptional. The Cedar Restaurant was able to do a 5 course vegan menu for my birthday, and it was divine! The vegan menu was so thoughtfully put together, and beautifully presented. The spa itself was well-designed and felt spacious. With multiple saunas / pools / rooms we often found we had the space to ourselves which was peaceful and relaxing. Spa staff were helpful in giving an orientation of the spa area, and consistently checking everything was up to standard.

Negative: Our room felt rather tired, and the carpets in the bedrooms / upstairs hallway are well past their prime. We paid £230 for a basic room mid-week and this didn't feel like good value for money. We recently stayed at another Northamptonshire spa hotel and paid £180 for a room which was far superior. If we hadn't had such a positive experience in the restaurant and spa, I probably would have felt somewhat disappointed with our stay based on the room. Finally, dinner was delicious but costly - we paid £260 for two tasting menus and 3 drinks. Fine for a special occasion, but something to be aware of when booking as the hotel is fairly remote if you wish to find other restaurants.
