Positive: This place was hands down amazing. From the staff, to cleanliness, to location. We didn’t have to use any public transportation because everything was a nice walk away. Cute coffee shops (Tijm, MOS, Noon Bar) and restaurants (Bunk, Loft 88) and shopping. Everything was absolutely perfect. Highlight of our NL trip was Utrecht and they really were a part of it.

Negative: Honestly. Nothing. It was perfect.

Positive: Great central location, decent size room for a short stay, comfortable bed, hot shower, satisfying breakfast, and friendly, helpful staff.

Negative: The room I stayed in had a connecting door (locked) with the room next door, which was unexpected. Not a huge issue, but it did mean being woken up by the neighbours’ noises when they got back after a late night out. There’s no central heating, it’s a convection fan in the ceiling, but even if it was a bit chilly at night (it was November), the duvets are good.

Summary: I found the Eye Hotel a perfectly good place to stay in the town centre for a short visit.

Positive: the two staff in the evening were very helpful. note, be very specific with requests just as double bed, upstairs rooms, as exactly wanted then I am sure they will meet the requirements.

Positive: Nice hotel, with funny design that refers to the history of the building. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location in the heart of Utrecht.

Negative: We had a room on the ground floor at the front. No window could be opened and the air conditioning kept going back to 20°. It would have been nice to sleep in a cooler room and with fresh air. The number of messages you receive via the Booking.com system, plus e-mail and WhatsApp is ridiculous. I recommend looking at this critically. The slow response to the phishing mails from the hotel to the customer is also worrying and deserves a review. The WhatsApp system is probably well-intentioned, but unnecessary and intrusive.

Positive: I had a very friendly welcome from the staff (and the cat concierge) and was upgraded to a large 'family' room, which was clean and spacious with natural wood floors, modern decor, big windows and plenty of natural light. And I appreciated the in-room safe, always welcome! The hotel is in a good location, an easy walk to the city centre but in a quiet, mostly residential area with shops and restaurants nearby. (Word to the wise: 'coffeeshops' do not sell coffee! ;-) )

Negative: The bathroom arrangement was a little odd, with a tiny room for the toilet but no door for the area with the sink and shower. And the artwork was kind of bizarre, with many large pieces all on the theme of eyes and visits to the eye doctor. I found it a bit disconcerting, but that's probably just me.
