Welcome to the Mountain Roots Guesthouse! You may be familiar with Mountain Roots from the popular 'Exploring Appalachia' series on YouTube and social media or from the EMMY winning shows produced for PBS like 'Hometowns'.
Now is YOUR chance to Explore Appalachia while staying at our mountain guesthouse! Enjoy scenic views of the National Forests encircling our 100(+) acre family homestead. You may be treated to such sights and sounds as bald eagles, white tail deer, & the occasional black bear!

Our guesthouse sleeps 8 people very comfortably, possibly up to 10. We've worked very hard to make the Guesthouse an inviting and relaxing environment- from outdoor fire pits that overlook our small pond and sit in the shadow of Sinking Creek Mountain, to indoor amenities such as reading nooks, a bar with LED lighting & wine fridge, and a gameroom with a brand new shuffleboard table.

While here you can enjoy acres of tranquility with friends or family! This is an EXCELLENT basecamp from which to Explore Appalachia!!

Take a walk in the fields or through the woods, you can even pet our furry four legged friends and give them a treat- our horses! (Kai, Chica, and Tennessee). You will likely witness breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, as well as smoke on the mountains (don't worry, it's just a misty fog)! You'll also have ample opportunity for birdwatching, seasonal wildflowers and foliage, & star gazing while here! This is still a working family homestead, so chances are high you'll see activity in the adjacent gardens and greenhouse near the Guesthouse.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS:

>The Guesthouse is only 15 minutes from some of Virginia's best hiking trails, including the Virginia Triple Crown and the most photographed location on the Appalachian Trail- McAfee Knob! Not to mention Dragons Tooth on the Appalachian trail, as well as hundreds of miles of forest service roads and public recreational areas for overlanding and outdoors enthusiasts alike!

> Just 5 min away is the quaint little town of New Castle, you'll find coffee shops like Lasterday Market as well as Lemon & Vale Cakery , both ideal breakfast and lunch spots! While in town be sure to swing by the Emporium General Store- you'll find everything here from novelty items, to books, and more.
>New Castle also has a new Farmers Market, a grocery store, post office, multiple gas stations, a fairground that hosts seasonal demolition derbies, a library, local healthcare, and a few family owned restaurants. For flight enthusiasts, you'll even find the Blue Ridge Soaring Society International Glider Port in New Castle!
>On the outskirts of New Castle Proper, you'll find the Fenwick Mines recreational area (including small waterfall!!), as well as the Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing. Be sure to check it out!

> A bit further from the Guesthouse (20-30 minutes) you can spend a day exploring Paint Bank and all its attractions, like a multi-thousand acre buffalo ranch and Swinging Bridge restaurant! There's also the Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory for those seeking to really stretch their legs and explore the outdoors!
> And if the season is right, you might just be able to enjoy the U-Pick blueberry farm at Woodall's Blueberries, or the pumpkin patch and Christmas tree farm at Joe's Trees (both appx. 15 minutes from the Guesthouse).

>Just a bit further up the road (30-40 minutes) you'll find a host of Virginia’s top breweries, wineries and craft spirits producers along the Blue Ridge in Salem and Roanoke, VA. Going the other direction (again, 30-40 minutes) you'll be in Blacksburg, VA and the Campus of Virginia Tech!

KITCHEN: A clean, modern, well-equipped kitchen with most everything you will need to fix meals if you feel like cooking. There is a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, and microwave. Plenty of dishes, cups, glasses, pots, pans, cookware, and kitchen tools. Some basic cooking supplies like salt, pepper, and others are provided. There is a coffee pot with coffee provided. We also provide assorted tea bags.

LIVING AREA: You will find comfy couches, a recliner, and 55" smart TV. We have fast Starlink internet. Additionally, you'll find the reading nook, with an assortment of books and boardgames- which is also great for playing cards in the evening. There is a cozy window bar with tall chairs where you can sit and enjoy the mountain views and watch the horses in the fields.

GAMEROOM & BAR: A large and spacious area specifically designed with relaxation and good times in mind! Enjoy a game of shuffleboard, or simply sit on the comfy couch and watch- or have a drink at the bar- LED lighting and wine fridge provided :)

BEDROOMS: All four bedrooms have new comfortable beds, extra-soft sheets, extra pillows, touch lamps with USB outlets, side-tables, dressers and closets for suitcases and hanging clothes.

BATHROOMS: The master bathroom is stocked with plenty of towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and razors. The second bathroom is also supplied with extra amenities as well.

YARD: There is a private back porch, and a firepit with chairs in the large back yard for your enjoyment. Firewood is not provided but can usually be purchased at our local grocery or places like Walmart on your way in.

Please note that although we are giving you exclusive access to our family homestead we cannot always be available to stop our work day unless previously scheduled. We are excited about your stay and thankful for your respect for our work-day as well! This property has been a labor of love for our family for over a decade now, starting as a small working family farm seeking to provide the healthiest local foods possible- in fact the Guesthouse was at one time our farm store but has been newly remodeled into the Mountain Roots Guesthouse for your enjoyment!
