Positive: Room was compact but well laid out, apart from the hot drinks area which was at my shoulder height, shower was a lovely waterfall type, sadly you have to run it for 2 minutes to get hot water, breakfast on the 1st morning was tasty & hot. The public car park was next door and the charges were very reasonable

Negative: Information on car park entrance prior to arrival, as it’s so close to the mini roundabout it’s very easy to miss, breakfast on the second morning was lukewarm (including the pot of tea) and the poached eggs tasted strongly of the vinegar that was excessively added to the water. The WiFi information in the room was incorrect but the lovely bar staff were able to help me, but in the room I still couldn’t log on, so I came down to reception to log on and fill in the form after that it worked in the room if a little slow.

Positive: Lots of space, garden areas and a comfortable stay. Staff try hard

Negative: My room needed a little attention like loose fittings on shower, toilet seat loose only one connector properly attached, a little unloved in parts. I understand dynamic pricing but it still annoying to see unsold rooms offered at half the price we paid booked in advance . Asking for 12.5% service charge on crisps & nuts I bought over the bar at already inflated price is TTP.

Positive: My room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom too was a good size. The tea/ coffee-making facilities were good with a wide choice of teas especially. Always disappointing that hotels don't include hot chocolate sachets as well! The staff were generally very pleasant and helpful.

Negative: Having stayed at the property a few years ago, I noticed a big difference. It is looking very tired and desperately needs some 'TLC'. If I had paid the full price as booked and confirmed, I would have been very unhappy as the day before my stay, the hotel's direct website was offering my category of room at a price half that which I had booked! I was given a reduction by a very helpful member of staff. The food was very disappointing both for dinner and breakfast. I had a very poor prawn salad for dinner with the prawns having obviously just come out of a packet: the salad was basically just lettuce with some dressing. The full English Breakfast was not good either: tough overcooked bacon and sausage. The best part was the bowl of yogurt with fruit.

Positive: Good location for a meet up with friends and overnight stay. Our room was at the back in the annexe, overlooking the gardens, which was peaceful. The bar was nice and modern. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Negative: Outside, corridors and rooms could all do with TLC. The bathroom, whilst clean, is starting to show its age. The beds were old wooden frames and a bit creaky. We felt the price was steep for what is really a 3* experience. Breakfast was okay, but not great.

Summary: A pleasant stay, but hotel has seen better days.

Negative: The rooms are too small. Fortunately we were moved to a larger room after our shower didn’t work, otherwise wouldn’t have stayed in the hotel at all! Also ridiculous lack of thought for things like not being able to plug a hairdryer anywhere near a mirror in first room. The food at dinner was absolutely revolting, couldn’t eat it, was given a refund after asking. Breakfast was underwhelming

Negative: The bed was very squeaky every time we turned over we woke each other up. The room seemed to be over the kitchen so there was a fair bit of banging but this did stop around 10-10.30pm.
