Positive: Bahari (our amazing tour guide and camera man), Sargen (our brilliant captain) and Jahiding and wife (host and first class cook) made this an unbelievable experience ! Be aware that the accommodation is very basic and I recommend taking earplugs (also for the boat), but once you settle down and get absorbed into the village life, the adventure begins and a different world opens. The wifi is almost nonexistent but after a while you can accept it as it is and relax. FB and instagram will wait for you … Our trip started at the harbor when we were warmly greeted by the ever smiling Bahari. After a 1,5 hour trip we arrived at our first snorkeling point and in the course of getting to the homestay, we visited 3 absolutely amazing snorkeling places where we saw at least 20+ beautiful turtles and such an abundance of other fish and corals. This continued the next two days and highlight were seeing so many Komodo dragons, being surrounded by hundreds of dolphins and of course the people we met on the tours. The whole trip may be expensive, but work out what 3 meals a day, a private guide and a private boat, entrance to the park etc etc … will cost, then the amount you pay is worth it, trust me. Would I do it again…damn right I would.
Negative: Leaving
Summary: An experience we will talk about for ever.

Positive: While it’s the Komodo Dragons that make it unique, it’s the locals that make it truly special. Great food, excellent adventure and authentic local experience.
Summary: Thanks Mr Jahiding you are a great host and a real gentleman.

Positive: We spent five unforgettable days on Komodo Island, and this homestay offered the perfect opportunity to truly immerse ourselves in the life of a small fishing village. The people were wonderfully welcoming, and the children—playful, funny, and full of charm—added so much joy to our stay. Jahiding and his wife went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Each day, our homestay arranged a private boat, giving us the freedom to explore at our own pace—snorkelling with turtles and manta rays, trekking, visiting nearby islands, and soaking in the stunning natural beauty of the region. Bahari, our boat guide, was simply exceptional. Having spent his entire life here, he knew exactly where to go for the most memorable encounters. He looked after us with such care in the sea and on land, and we shared many laughs along the way—thank you, Bahari! One of the highlights was trekking through the wild landscapes in search of Komodo dragons. We were lucky enough not only to spot them but also to witness the rare sight of a mating pair—an unforgettable moment. The meals at the homestay were outstanding—fresh fish, chicken, and something different every day. The accommodation is simple but perfectly comfortable, exactly what you’d expect from a place so remote and authentic. We loved every moment of our stay here and are already hoping to return.
Summary: Wow—no words can truly capture how amazing this place was!

Positive: This place is all about the rare privilege of staying on Komodo Island and immersing yourself in local life within a small fishing village. The people are incredibly welcoming, and the children play freely—no screens in sight, just real connection and joy. We ventured beyond the village to trek through the wilderness in search of Komodo dragons—and we weren’t disappointed. We even witnessed a pair mating, which was unforgettable. Our accommodation arranged a private boat for us each day (we stayed four days), allowing us to snorkel, trek, visit turtles and manta rays, explore nearby islands, and experience all the region’s natural highlights at our own pace. Harri, who looked after us on the boat, was fantastic—having spent his whole life in the area, he knew exactly where to go for the best sights and encounters. The food at our homestay was exceptional—fresh fish straight from the local boats every day. Accommodation is basic by Western standards, but comfortable enough—just make sure to bring insect repellent. Also, bring cash if you'd like to enjoy a beer—a large Bintang costs around 75k IDR—and don’t expect shops or amenities; this is a truly remote experience. Jahiding and his wife went above and beyond to make us feel at home. This isn't about five-star luxury or being herded around on crowded tour boats. It’s about embracing a different pace and way of life, and truly experiencing what it’s like to live here. We absolutely loved it.
Negative: Nothing

Positive: The breakfast and dinner cooked by the wife was very good. The accommodation was close to the harbour. Free clean drinkable water fountain. The effort of the host, even though he was not the most friendly person we have met so far travelling Indonesia. He still tried and helped us organise a day trip.
Negative: We didn’t expect much, as it is how you see it on the pictures. But sadly it was really dirty. All the rooms were booked and 8 people used the “bathroom” and the communal area and no one cleaned anything on the day after. In our “room” was a lot of hair on the floor. The pillows were hard like rocks, there was not even a sheet to use as a blanket and only one towel provided for 2 people. We booked 3 nights and left one night before.
Summary: Disappointing as rooms and bathroom were dirty

Positive: This is a true homestay, Jahiding and family is a true host. He organised all our tours and organised for taxi to pick us up from the airport and boat to take us to the island. He is very knowledgeable about Komodo Dragon and very helpful. His wife is a fantastic cook and the fish is very fresh and taste so good. He is very prompt in answering any queries which is very helpful. His homestay is comfortable, clean and close to the pier. This is a homestay is situated in a small village so you can see many goats and chicken are running around. It is wonderful to experience a simple lifestyle without any gadgets, TV or computers, There is only one bathroom so U need to share with others. The best part is there aren't many mosquitoes, ants or flies. We enjoyed our time in this homestay and we all had a wonderful time in Komodo Island. If you are looking to stay in Komodo island, I highly recommend this place. We were able to explore the neighbouring islands and made two trips to the Komodo National park and on each occasions we saw many Komodo dragons which is really a BIG bonus.
Negative: We wish there is a basin in the homestay.
Summary: Comfortable homestay and we enjoyed it.

Positive: A wonderful stay at Mr Jahiding's homestay! The room was clean and comfortable, with an unbeatable location in the center of Komodo Island village. He was very welcoming, offered an excellent dinner and breakfast cooked by his wife, and perfectly organized a private island-hopping boat trip back to Labuan Bajo (expensive but worth every penny). He is a ranger at the Loh Liang Park where you can see Komodo dragons, and has plenty of good contacts and recommendations All around an exceptional experience
Summary: Fantastic

Positive: Friendly host, amazing location, once in a lifetime trip. You will get places in the national park all to yourself before and after the boat tours leave. We saw so many dragons, sea turtles, manta rays, and other wildlife. The home was very comfortable and food was delicious. I would recommend this to anyone looking to explore the national park in a unique way- so much better than the boat tours. Note: bring 1-2 quick dry towels with you for the beach and shower. It’s also worth mentioning it’s a shared bathroom if there are other guests in the homestay. It wasn’t an issue, but I didn’t know before booking.
