Positive: The location was ideal, in a quiet neighborhood extremely well connected by tram. The apartment is beautiful, with high ceilings, a private patio, a large bathroom with huge tub, and large windows. We lived in Cologne for a decade but haven't been back for 5 years, and we really enjoyed getting to know Deutz, beyond just attending events at the Lanxess Arena (a 10-minute walk btw). The flat is a 5-minute walk to the shopping street Deutzer Freiheit, to the Rhine river walk, and to two tram stops. There are tall trees that line the streets, and a playground 5 minutes away. We loved it.

Negative: The listing clearly states that the unit has a washing machine and dryer; the machines are in fact in the cellar, which isn't uncommon in a German apartment. It would not have normally been a problem, because a key to the cellar was provided. However, the key did not work. When I first inquired, the proprietor sent the cleaning lady over within a couple of minutes to unlock the cellar door. But they didn't give us a working key. This meant that the neighbours kept locking the cellar, removing our access and at times locking our laundry away! We were travelling for several weeks with our young children, during a heat wave -- having laundry facilities was a huge reason for us booking this place. It felt unfair to always have to contact the cleaning lady and inconvenience her. Once, our laundry had to stay wet in the washing machine overnight because someone locked the cellar, and it was too late for the cleaning lady to come open it. When I mentioned to the owner the importance of laundry facilities for us, he said that laundry was really only for use in emergencies. I reminded him that the listing states laundry in its facilities. Nowhere -- not on Booking.com or in the guest information folder in the flat (pics attached) -- did it say that laundry was for emergency use only. This issue was so frustrating and put a damper on what was otherwise a wonderful place to stay. We are fluent in German and have a strong understanding of how German apartments, cellars, and washing machines work. I think it would be so much more confusing and frustrating for someone without this prior knowledge, when you arrive expecting the unit you've rented to have the washer and dryer it advertises. The only other suggestion I have is to provide a fan for the bedroom, as it got very warm at night.

Positive: Amazing! Close to the city, neighbourhood is good and not too loud eventhough the place is on the ground floor. All the facilities are complete and convenient. Very comfortable and complete.
