Summary: As a museum professional I think it is amazing that such an old building can be put to modern use but with respect for the old building. However our room was cramped in relation to the prize we paid for it, and it was very hot. The least the hotel could do in a building where installing AC is impossible, is to provide fans. Also there naturally were no elevators, but the hotel could have provided porters, which would also have been historically correct. Our 5 course dinner was good, but one should not come hungry to the table. Waiters were willing and friendly but inexperienced. The dress code at dinner was not followed by the other guests. Breakfast was superior though.

Summary: This is a beautiful historic hotel, we had a wonderful stay. Walked the grounds and enjoyed the beauty and quiet. Staff was extemley nice and helpful. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Food was excellent! Splurge alittle and stay at this hotel, you win't be disappointed.

Summary: A magical experience - like stepping back in time. Excellent in every way...from pleasant and efficient check in to superb meal with white glove service, amusing story telling, and phenomenal views. We took the MS Henrik Ibsen up the Telemark Canal which added charm to the entire experience. The staff was attentive, cheerful, and pleasant. The rooms and decor were a throw back to kinder more gentile times where class and elegance were so very important. The pace was slow...everyone's shoulders fell as they relaxed in an atmosphere devoid of technical distractions. And the surrounding views were phenomenal. Norwegian nature at its best. Highly recommend!
