Positive: room was lovely; clean and the bed was comfortable. staff very friendly evening meal and entertainment at Trocaderos were superb.

Negative: my wife's breakfast was extremely over-cooked.

Positive: We stayed in the modern part of the hotel and not the castle. Our bedroom and bathroom were modern and decorated to a high quality. They had all the amenities that we needed. The room was spotless and the bed comfortable. Dinner was excellent and breakfast was the best quality we had throughout our holiday in Scotland.

Negative: When we went for breakfast there were numerous tables with used crockery etc that hadn't been cleared and throughout breakfast 90% of them remained that way. It was not pleasant. Service was not great either. We were seated at a table that was obviously previously used and had some random crockery/cutlery on it. The waitress brought some items every few minutes at random and took a while to complete the setting. I had to ask for a replacement knife as the one on the table was dirty. No menu was given to us until we asked for it some time later. No napkins were given to us even after some of the breakfast items arrived. We had asked our server for napkins and when they were not forthcoming we asked another server. About 10 or 15 minutes after we were given napkins our original waitress came over with some. The restaurant had very few tables occupied and there were 2 waitresses there as well as the gentleman who brought food from the kitchen. He was the only one who worked efficiently and was more helpful and friendly than our waitress who was sullen and unhelpful. Although the breakfast was delicious, the service was severely lacking.
