Summary: Acanthus villa is perfectly situated just a few steps from the market square. The villa makes a cosy home from home, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The owner is a mine of information about the village and surrounding area. Definitely a good choice!

Summary: Can’t imagine staying anywhere else… Acanthus is gorgeous and welcoming. The hosts are extraordinary with their care and attention, and as a result walking into the house feels like coming home. I’ve stayed there 6 or 7 times now, and each time can hardly wait to get back.

Summary: I have had three holiday stays at Acanthus, and I hope to be able to enjoy many more. The location of the house is ideal, only a few steps away from the market square, and the property is absolutely as described. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped with everything anyone might need to prepare full meals, and the refrigerator/freezer is an absolute bonus, as it is not one of the little below-counter ones which can only accommodate one ice-cube tray! The house is immaculately maintained, the bedrooms are comfortable, and the main bathroom/shower is fully modernized. The owners are extremely helpful and accommodating, and always willing to recommend activities and places to visit.. The village itself has a number of restaurants and cafes, and the twice-weekly markets are fabulous. I would certainly recommend Acanthus to a friend, and I certainly hope to return.

Summary: I’ve stayed at Acanthus 6 or 7 times now, and will keep coming back to St. Chinian for the people, the village, the vineyards, the markets, the shops and restaurants, and for the warmth and beauty of Acanthus. The house and its furnishing are beautiful, so comfortable, bright, and inviting. And the village has everything that’s needed for a perfect holiday—gorgeous walks, friendly shopkeepers, amazing plat du jours, local wines and cheeses and fresh produce, markets twice a week, oh, and the patisseries…oh my… I keep going back, and can’t imagine going anywhere else in southern France.

Summary: Our stay in Saint Chinian was wonderful and exactly what I dreamed of. This IS a charming village house and more comfortable than I could imagine. The owners set up just the right touches to make it feel like it was a home away from home...lots of books, magazines, movies to keep me happy. The location was perfect as we did not have a car but we were able to walk everywhere to get what we needed. Some of our favorite things to do: the outdoor market on Thursdays was interesting and fun because of the food, household goods and clothing sold, going to the Bakery, the butcher, restaurants, and even an antique store in town to name a few. We walked to the Le Madura winery and took several other relaxing walks outside the village. If you want to experience a true French village, I highly recommend this lovely house and village. I can't wait to go back! Antony and Andreas (owners) are charming folks who eagerly helped us discover things to do in this enchanting area.

Summary: If you are looking for a comfortable, clean and well appointed Pied a terre in the south of France look no further. Acanthus more than lives up to the pictures and reviews. It is a charming little house sat on the corner of a quiet street just off the main hub of St Chinian. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped with everything you need and a few things you didn't think you would! Two good sized bedrooms and a large shower room on the top floor and below a lovely bright salon across from the kitchen which opens out onto a little balcony just right for two people to sit and enjoy the quiet bustle of the town. A laundry area and second shower can be found on the ground floor and if you need anything your hosts can usually be found in the office behind, formally the garage. This is a real home from home. St Chinian has many local wineries with free tastings and there are good restaurants to suit all budgets. On Sundays the market is excellent, offering a huge range of food, clothing and household goods. Everything you need is on the doorstep and if you want to venture further afield you are surrounded by beautiful old villages, vineyards and medieval cities such as Carcassonne which is only an hour away. The hosts have paid great attention to detail with numerous travel guides and booklets for you to browse and they are never far away if you need advice. We came for 8 nights and had a wonderfully relaxing break. Book with confidence, you'll be in safe hands.

Summary: Oh my! I don't think I can top Jan's review, but could only echo all the wonderful comments she's made. The house, the location, the owners, the village, everything about the experience has surpassed all of my expectations for a perfect holiday in France. And every time I need a little reminder, I just go to the blog to see pictures and events that remind me of what I've done, or what I want to do or see next time. And there will be many next times, to be sure! I do want to add a word about transportation… I've been to St. Chinian with and without a car. With a car, travel through the countryside is gorgeous and access to other villages and sights is unlimited. Without a car, the bus transportation to a few other villages is quite good, and taking a bus to the Beziers train station leads to other opportunities. It definitely is possible to have a wonderful holiday without a car!

Summary: This was the fifth time we have stayed at Acanthus, so obviously we like it. This year we used the off season flexibility to have a ten day break in St Chinian. There are a range of good restaurants in the main street for an evening meal and many more in the surrounding towns and villages for lunch as you travel round the area. On a fine day lunch sat on the terrace at the Petit Nice in Rouquebrun just 16 km from St Chinian is a regular event for us. We also visit several of the local vineyards and the only problem is not to buy too much. A favourite is Chateau Belot about 1 km out on the road towards Cessenon. Acanthus has wi-fi, English TV channels, books, DVDs etc all within an old French house which has been modernised without losing its essential character. The owners live nearby and can be contacted if required - thought the information provided has always been adequate for us.

Summary: Acanthus is a wonderful holiday home located in the small village of St. Chinian in the Languedoc region of France. Langueduc is full of medieval villages, rivers, hills, vineyards, the Canal Du Midi and there is much to see. I have stayed in Acanthus six times and always look forward to my visit there. It is a beautifully furnished, very clean pleasant home with many personal touches. There is a large living room that has sun coming in on two sides and a small balcony. It has all of the amenities - books. TV, movies, radio, CD player. It is a wonderful place to relax. I love the kitchen, which is old fashioned but has everything you need. It even has a pantry. The second floor has two large bedrooms with comfortable beds and nice furnishings. The bathroom is a marvel. It is very large and are attractively furnished. There is also a bathroom on the ground floor and a washing machine, iron and ironing board. Acanthus has the feel of a French village house but still has many modern touches. The owners are exceptional. They are available and helpful. They have furnished the house with information about the area and are always ready to answer questions and help whenever they can. They take pride in providing a nice home for people on holiday and they do everything they can to make your stay there a good one. Acanthus is located in the center of St. Chinian and easy walking distance to the shops, bakeries, restaurants and banks. My favorite is the outdoor market on Thursday and Sunday morning. I look forward to the market every year when I arrive. There is fresh produce, jams, cheese, meat, fish, olives, etc. Everything you might need. After the market, you can set on the square and have coffee. St. Chinian is in a valley and in quite a beautiful and interesting area. Languedoc has a fascinating history and it is possible to take in the sights without going too far from St Chinian. And if you have questions about anything just ask the owners of Acanthus.

Summary: The apartment was just perfect for us, very tastefully fitted out in authentic French style, very old, very spacious, fully fitted out and everything we needed for a four week stay. Apart from being very comfortable, there was a comprehensive book, DVD and CD library for our exclusive use as well as access to many UK and French TV channels. It was just a couple of minutes walk to the main street of this charming small French village which has banks, chemists, doctors, butchers, bakeries, supermarkets and many other services you would never find in a similar sized town (2,000) in Australia. If you want a taste of French rural life at its best this apartment and this village are ideal. The owners/managers could not have been more helpful to deal with and were very knowledgeable about not just the village but the whole of the district with lots of excellent suggestions for day trips to surrounding areas.
